MUZAFFARGARH: Commissioner Dera Ghazi Khan Khalid Manzoor said on Thursday that a sum of Rs 7 billion worth of payments have been made to the flood hit families of DG Khan, Rajanpur and Taunsa districts so far.
During a visit to Muzaffargarh, commissioner met with a delegation comprising representatives of international aid agencies and apprised them of the ongoing disbursement of financial assistance among the people hit by floods.
Commissioner said that the affected people were made payments against damages caused to their homes, livestock and deaths of their family members.
He said that Punjab government had allocated Rs 9 billion for the flood hit people and pledged to reach out to every affected person to extend help.
He said that floods triggered by hill torrents had widely damaged the irrigation system breaching canals from 250 points. All the breaches have been plugged and canals made operational. Khalid Manzoor said that funds have also been released and process of restoring road network was in progress.
Representatives of World Bank, World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), WFP besides officials of different departments were present.
Delegates were informed that food shortages were being met with the help from international aid bodies in flood hit areas and nutrition sachets were distributed. Health facilities were also being provided to the people.
