Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) carried out a grand zero-waste operation and public awareness campaign in the historic city of Taxila as part of its ongoing cleanliness initiative across the district.
According to the RWMC spokesman, waste lifting, drain cleaning and anti-smog measures were undertaken during the drive, while the company’s communication teams engaged citizens through market visits and door-to-door campaigns to highlight the importance of cleanliness, causes of smog and preventive steps.
Awareness pamphlets containing helpline numbers and social media details were distributed to facilitate swift registration and redressal of sanitation-related complaints. Citizens expressed satisfaction with RWMC’s performance and appreciated the improved cleanliness situation, saying the initiative was contributing to a healthier environment.
The spokesman added that RWMC was modernising the cleanliness system in Rawalpindi and its tehsils under the zero-waste vision. He said the objective of the operation in Taxila was not only to ensure sanitation but also to encourage public participation, noting that a clean environment was not possible without citizen cooperation.
Along with road cleaning, soil scraping and water sprinkling, public awareness was essential to curb smog.
He said the scope of zero-waste operations and awareness campaigns would be further expanded across all tehsils of Rawalpindi to promote a cleaner environment and better quality of life for citizens.
