Karachi

Karachi: The currently circulating Rs10 banknote is still a legal tender and no decision has been taken regarding the replacement or discontinuation of any denomination so far, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) clarified on Thursday.

The central bank, in a statement issued here, categorically refuted reports circulating on social media regarding the purported discontinuation of the Pakistan’s Rs 10 banknote and the last date for its exchange, terming the reports as baseless and having no substance.

The proposal for the introduction of a new banknote series was currently under consideration by the Federal Cabinet, the SBP informed, adding ‘The matter remains under deliberation, and no decision has been taken regarding the replacement or discontinuation of any denomination.’

Advising the public to rely only on official SBP communications, the banking regulator assured that any such decision, if taken, will be formally communicated through official channels and adequate time will be given to the public for exchange of discontinued banknotes.
