Abbottabad: A screening campaign for food handlers and barbers has been launched in Abbottabad on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
Additional Assistant Commissioner Kamran Ali Shah, District Health Officer Dr. Shehzad Iqbal, health coordinators and other officials inspected the ongoing screening process at the DHO Office. Food handlers and barbers are being subjected to various medical tests, including screening for hepatitis and HIV.
Officials said health certificates would be issued to eligible individuals after completion of the screening, while a confidential database of all screened persons would also be maintained. The administration is also ensuring the availability of disinfectants and cleaning equipment at barber shops and providing awareness about their proper use and hygiene practices.
The screening campaign will continue throughout the week, following which a comprehensive report will be prepared and submitted. The district administration said the initiative is aimed at protecting public health, preventing communicable diseases and improving service delivery in the district.
