SPA issues 65 warning notices during anti-smog drive

RAWALPINDI:The Suthra Punjab Agency (SPA) Rawalpindi has intensified monitoring and public awareness activities in commercial areas to curb littering, reduce air pollution, and address the growing threat of smog.

On the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the agency launched an anti-smog awareness campaign in commercial areas, including Shakrial, Faizabad, Pirwadhai and Girja Road, under the supervision of Managing Director Rana Sajid Safdar.

During the campaign, the agency’s anti-littering squad conducted 430 inspections and issued 65 warning notices for violations.

Shopkeepers, traders and citizens were informed that open dumping and burning of garbage contribute to air pollution and pose risks to public health and the environment.

The agency’s communication team also distributed awareness pamphlets in commercial markets, urging citizens to dispose of waste at designated places, maintain cleanliness and avoid activities that contribute to smoke emissions.

The teams emphasised that preventing smog was a shared responsibility and called on citizens, shopkeepers and business centre management to cooperate with government efforts to reduce pollution.

The agency said monitoring and awareness campaigns would continue, with public cooperation considered essential to maintaining a clean environment and improving air quality in Rawalpindi.
