Rawalpindi: Field teams of Suthra Punjab Agency (SPA) Rawalpindi carried out cleanliness and drainage operations in low-lying areas, major roads and markets following heavy rains that started in the city in the early hours of Monday.
Managing Director SPA Rawalpindi and CEO Rawalpindi Waste Management Company Rana Sajid Safdar visited various areas and reviewed cleanliness and drainage arrangements.
On his directions, sanitation workers continued removing obstructions from drains and channels, de-silting and lifting accumulated waste to ensure smooth drainage of rainwater.
Rana Sajid directed field teams to provide immediate relief to citizens during the rains and promptly respond to complaints related to drainage.
He said providing relief to citizens was the top priority, adding that field teams were continuously monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant departments to deal with the effects of rain.
Meanwhile, on the instructions of Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani, all relevant departments were placed on high alert, and the drainage operation was closely monitored.
WASA staff and heavy machinery were deployed at low-lying and vulnerable points, including Liaquat Bagh, Committee Chowk Underpass, Murree Road, Dhok Khabba, Circular Road and Sadiqabad.
The Commissioner said Nala Lai was being continuously monitored and citizens were being promptly informed about the situation.
According to the Meteorological Department, 33 mm of rainfall was recorded in Saidpur, 25 mm in Golra, 22 mm in Bokra, 23 mm at PMD, 29 mm in Shamsabad, 15 mm in Kachhari, 28 mm in Pirwidhai and 27 mm in Gawalmandi.
Citizens were advised to contact the district administration or WASA helpline in case of any emergency.
