Faisalabad: In line with the instructions of Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a target has been set to cultivate wheat crop over 1.834 million acres in the division.
A meeting of the Divisional Wheat Committee was held under the chair of Commissioner Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh here on Monday, in which necessary directions were issued to ensure the ample availability of fertilizers and seeds at fixed rates, the supply of canal water to farmers at the tail-end of watercourses, and the adoption of mechanical sowing methods using super seeders.
The Commissioner instructed Deputy Commissioners to listen to farmers’ grievances in district committee meetings and resolve the same within fortnightly, as well as to obtain reports from relevant Lambardars regarding the 100 percent supply of canal water to tail-end areas.
He emphasized that the wheat sowing target must be achieved by November 20 and noted that the provincial government would soon announce the support price for wheat.
He expressed the resolve to make Faisalabad Division the top-performing division in the province regarding wheat cultivation.
It was decided in the meeting that the protection of farmers’ rights would be ensured and that a follow-up meeting would be held in 15 days to review the progress made against the targets assigned to the Deputy Commissioners.
Agriculture Director Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood briefed the meeting, and representatives of the Kisan Board presented their proposals.
