Peshawar: A local terrorist commander wanted in several serious terrorism cases was killed in a joint operation by police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Lakki Marwat, police said on Monday.
Police identified the slain militant as Manzoor, son of Izzat, a resident of Abdul Khel. He was allegedly involved in attacks on civilians and was wanted by CTD Bannu in seven terrorism cases registered between December 2024 and September 2026.
The operation was launched after terrorists attacked players travelling in a rickshaw after a cricket match in Abdul Khel a day earlier. The attack left three young men dead and three others injured.
Following the incident, a heavy contingent of police and CTD personnel reached the area on the directives of District Police Officer Lakki Marwat Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada and cordoned it off.
During the ensuing search operation, police and CTD personnel exchanged fire with the militants, killing Manzoor. Police took his body into custody.
According to police records, Manzoor was wanted in seven cases registered at CTD Bannu police station under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, Anti-Terrorism Act and other relevant laws, including cases involving attempted murder, attacks on police, arson, robbery and other acts of terrorism.
A large-scale search and combing operation is continuing in the area to trace and arrest other militants involved in terrorist activities, police said.
