Dera ismail khan: Deputy Commissioner Hikmatullah has directed the relevant departments to expedite restoration and reconstruction work on the Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC), which was damaged by a breach a few days ago, disrupting water supply and irrigation facilities in the area.
The directives were issued during a high-level meeting chaired by him to review progress on the canal restoration project.
Chief Engineers of CRBC, WAPDA and the Irrigation Department attended the meeting, along with additional deputy commissioner finance and planning D.I. Khan, assistant commissioner D.I. Khan,
assistant commissioner Paharpur and executive engineer irrigation Paharpur.
The deputy commissioner directed all concerned authorities to complete the restoration work on an emergency basis to provide early relief to local residents and farmers affected by the disruption in irrigation water.
WAPDA officials were directed to finalize the project estimate and submit it to the Deputy Commissioner without delay so that the remaining formalities could be completed and construction work initiated at the earliest.
Officials informed the meeting that approval for the project had already been obtained from the relevant forum, allowing the authorities to proceed without the lengthy administrative procedures normally involved in such projects.
It was also informed that the technical work, including the canal survey, design and assessment of the water source, had already been completed. Consequently, no major technical or ground-level hurdle remained for commencement of the reconstruction work.
According to the project schedule, formal invitations will be issued within the next two to three days to major and reputable construction companies registered with WAPDA.
The bids and proposals submitted by the companies will subsequently be evaluated, with the selection of the contractor expected to be finalized by next Monday.
Following the final selection, the project will be formally handed over to the contractor. Subject to approval by the WAPDA
Chairman and release of the required funds by the provincial government, physical construction work on the CRBC is expected to commence next week.
