Two held for hawala-hundi, illegal currency exchange

Lahore: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Commercial Banking Circle Lahore arrested two alleged hawala-hundi operators during a raid and recovered Rs3.062 million in Pakistani currency along with foreign currency and other evidence on Friday.



An FIA spokesperson said on Friday that arrested suspects were identified as Zohaib and Awais, who were allegedly involved in hawala-hundi and illegal currency exchange, the spokesperson said.



He said the suspects were arrested during a raid in Lahore and Rs3.062 miliion in Pakistani currency was recovered from their possession.



British pounds, UAE dirhams, cheque books, prize bonds and mobile phones were also recovered from the suspects, along with evidence related to hawala-hundi and illegal currency exchange, he added.



The FIA arrested the suspects and launched an investigation into their alleged involvement in the illegal financial activities, the spokesperson said.
