KARACHI: Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi has signed a memorandum of understanding and a cooperation with the University of Isfahan, Iran, during his visit to the Iranian city.
Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi is invited to the fifth Mustafa (PBUH) prize award ceremony, said a statement issued by a spokesperson of KU here on Monday.
The international event serves as the paramount platform for acknowledging excellence in the realm of science and technology and is arranged annually by the Mustafa (PBUH) Science and Technology Foundation, Tehran, Iran.
The KU and the UI Iran have inked the MoU documents to establish a scientific collaboration with the universities of the two countries. The heads of both varsities have agreed to provide a joint platform for research activities for the students and faculty of both countries.
Both universities would invite outstanding scientists of one party in another country to contribute to enhancing joint collaboration. They have also talked about establishing varsity branches in either party’s country.
According to the MoU, both parties have committed to admit postdoctoral researchers, co-supervise postgraduate dissertations, theses, and related exams, and review postgraduate dissertations and theses.
The KU and UI will carry out joint research projects and scientific journals and will publish joint research articles besides holding seminars, webinars, workshops, and conferences and they will also launch books on various topics.
Both universities have agreed to provide research funding opportunities and grants, and they will cooperate in teaching academic courses, and joint or dual degree programs. They will also provide international internships and arrange skill training programs for students of both countries.
Meanwhile, the MoC was signed to foster academic connections, deepen cultural understanding, and make necessary arrangements for student and faculty exchange programs.
The heads of both universities agreed that students would remain on the campus for at least one academic year and they would be exempted from tuition fees and admission charges at the host institution.
The KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi and the President UI Professor Hossein Harsij signed these documents during the fifth Mustafa (PBUH) prize award ceremony.
They believed that the collaboration between these two influential varsities in the Islamic world would be mutually beneficial and contribute to the advancement of science and technology in Islamic countries.
