HARIPUR:Speakers at an awareness programme in Haripur on Thursday called for safeguarding the rights of visually impaired people and ensuring their access to education, independence and equal opportunities, marking International White Cane Safety Day.
The programme was organised by a private welfare organisation to highlight the challenges faced by visually impaired people and promote their inclusion in society. Prominent political and social figure Abdul Saboor Qureshi and other participants attended the event and paid tribute to the organisation’s welfare services.
On this occasion, the speakers urged the government to allocate special funds for the education, welfare and empowerment of visually impaired people. They also called for practical measures to improve access to essential services, protect their rights and enable them to participate fully in social and economic activities.
They said International White Cane Safety Day served as a reminder that visually impaired people could make valuable contributions to every sphere of life through their abilities, determination and self-confidence. They urged all segments of society to encourage them, provide equal opportunities and respect their dignity.
