MULTAN:Federal Insurance Ombudsman (FIO) Dr Mohammad Khawar Jameel on Wednesday said that insurance companies should not hide terms and conditions from the customers at time, otherwise, it creates problems after selling it.
He informed that transparency in insurance and increasing GDP is one of priorities of his office besides resolving the issue of the complaints amicably.
Addressing an awareness session at Multan Chamber of Commerce&Industry (MCCI)after opening regional office here on Wednesday, he informed that selling insurance was not the job of bank manager. MCCI president Khawaja Muhammad Hussain, Regional Advisor Federal Insurance Ombudsman Azam Joya, FBF Chief Commissioner LTO, Nabeela Faran Baig, Advisor Basit Ali and other officials were also present on the occasion.
Dr.Khawar said that each one of us has no identity without country adding that we are duty bound to take it forward on path of progress and prosperity.
Our young generation is talented, confident and we are hopeful that these young people will take Pakistan forward. He said that our institution is working in a better way manner and after listening to the both parties with, FIO decides the case.
He said that he has brought a vision in his organization and wants to solve the problems of insurance by moving away from the traditional culture. FIO stated that he preferred persuasion over prosecution in his two years time in office which resulted extension of relief of Rs 2.13 billion last year which was Rs 410 million in 2019.
About reformers introduced by him in office, Dr Khawar maintained that he directed to enlarge the font of the documents for easy reading in addition to translate all forms in Urdu too to facilitate the complainants.
He said that one of the major causes of problems in insurance policy is selling policies by bank managers adding that they do not guide their customers property which create issues later on. He said that insurance companies should not keep anything secret from their customers.
Earlier, in welcome address, MCCI President Khawaja Muhammad Hussain said that he welcomes Federal Insurance Ombusdsman and his team on arrival in city of saints inaugurating regional office was a good step which will benefit the people of the region. Khawaja Hussain asked insurance companies to focus on SMEs along with the other sectors so that even small scale individuals can benefit from insurance.
He said that he would request the Federal Insurance Ombudsman to set up a court in the office of our Chamber.d here He said that he also demanded that more offices of the Federal Ombudsman be opened at the regional level.
Later, MCCI Vice president Naveed Chaughtai presented souvenir to visiting dignitaries. A good number of businessmen and insurance companies officers attended the session Question answers session was also held.
