ISLAMABAD:Light to moderate intensity rain lashed different parts of the country including twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Wednesday afternoon, turning the weather cold.
The rain of light to moderate intensity started during the afternoon in the twin cities, turned into drizzle and continued for more than two hours with gaps.
The rain as per the forecast of the weather experts decreased the minimum temperatures at various parts of the country, compelling the citizens to take extra precautionary measures to prevent themselves from cold weather conditions.
Talking to reporter, an official of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the rainfall recorded till 6:00 pm was Parachinar 02 mm, Rawalakot and Kotli 01 mm and traces in Jhelum, Mangla and Islamabad.
“Since the weather system has just entered the country, it will intensify and produce more rain during the next 24 hours”, the official added.
The PMD has indicated chances of rain-wind/thunderstorms at various parts of the country till Thursday.
The PMD has also warned that the windstorm during the period may cause damages to vulnerable structures in Sindh-Makran coast.
The temperatures are likely to fall 03-05 C in Sindh and Balochistan on Thursday and Friday.
The rainfall will be beneficial for crops particularly wheat in Barani areas.
The rain is the result of a westerly wave that entered the upper/central parts of the country on Wednesday.
Under this system, light to moderate rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar, Layyah, Okara and Sahiwal till Thursday.
Moderate rain-wind/thunderstorm with isolated hailstorm are also expected in Kashmir, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur and Sheikhupura till Thursday.
Light with few moderate snowfall is expected in Murree, Galliyat, Nathiagali, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Neelum valley, Bagh, Haveli, Astore and Hunza till Thursday.
Windstorm/dust raising winds are also expected along Sindh-Makran coast till Thursday.
