ISLAMABAD: An Accountability Court (AC) on Thursday adjourned Thatha water supply scheme reference against former president Asif Ali Zardari and others till October 14.
The defence lawyer during the hearing continued cross examination with prosecution witness Syed Nadeem Ahmed.
AC-II Judge Muhammad Azam Khan heard the graft reference connected with fake bank accounts scam. The court granted one-day exemption from hearing to Asif Ali Zardari and co-accused Khawaja Abdul Ghani Majeed on their lawyers’ request.
The defence lawyers including Farooq H. Naek, Arshad Tabraiz, Asad Manzoor Butt, Umair Asghar Abbasi and Rahmat advocate conducted cross examination with witness on the occasion.
In the reference, the bureau nominated 13 accused persons including Ejaz Ahmed Khan, former secretary of the Special Initiative Department of Sindh; Hassan Ally Memon, project director/chairman of the procurement committee for the water supply scheme, Thatta; and members of the committee namely Ali Akbar Abro, Aijaz Ahmed Memon, Athar Nawaz Durrani, Abdul Haleem Memon, Mohammad Farrukh Khan, Mohammad Ramzan, Mohammad Siddiq Sulemani and Zeeshan Hasan Yousaf; private contractor Harish, Omni Group CEO Khawaja Abdul Ghani Majeed, and Menahel Majeed.
The reference accused ex-secretary Khan as well as the chairman and members of the procurement committee of misusing authority for the illegal award of different contracts to private contractors.
