10 women among 13 professional baggers arrested in Quetta

Quetta:At least 13 professional baggers including 3 men were arrested in respective areas of Quetta during operation against professional baggers on Thursday.



On the special directives Director General of Social Welfare Balochistan, Mir Saifullah Khan Khetran, the Social Welfare Department’s ‘Welfare Home for Beggars’ conducted an operation against professional beggars in various areas of Quetta city and apprehended 13 individuals including 10 women.



The Social Welfare Department, Director General Mir Saifullah Khan Khetran has instructed relevant officials to intensify efforts aimed at eradicating professional begging in Quetta, these measures focus on identifying individuals who beg in public places and ensuring the provision of necessary facilities through established legal and welfare procedures.



In light of the DG’s special directives, a team from the Welfare Home for Beggars carried out operations in several areas of Quetta, including Jinnah Road, Qandhari Bazaar, Liaquat Bazaar, Prince Road, Patel Road, Double Road, and Sariab Road (Bus/Coach Lane Nos. 1 and 2).



A total of 13 professional beggars comprising 10 women and 3 men were taken into custody during the operation and subsequently transferred to the relevant police station for necessary legal proceedings.



Social Welfare Department officials stated that the crackdown on professional begging aims to discourage organized begging in the city while identifying individuals who are genuinely deserving of assistance and rehabilitation.



The Director General of Social Welfare Balochistan has directed relevant officers to ensure the continuous enforcement of measures against professional beggars and to take all necessary legal actions, thereby helping to rid Quetta’s major thoroughfares, markets, and public spaces of professional begging.
