Peshawar:Transport Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched an awareness campaign aimed at controlling smog and toxic emissions from vehicles that contribute to environmental pollution.
As part of the campaign, the Vehicle Emission Testing Station (VETS) Peshawar is conducting vehicle fitness and emission tests while also creating awareness among citizens and vehicle owners about the harmful impacts of environmental pollution and the importance of proper vehicle maintenance.
According to the VETS Peshawar performance report for September 2026, a total of 10,489 vehicles were tested during the month. Of these, 8,449 vehicles successfully met the prescribed fitness and emission standards, while 2,050 vehicles failed to meet the required environmental and technical standards.
Challan proceedings were initiated against the vehicles found in violation.
The Transport Department has urged citizens and vehicle owners to extend their cooperation in controlling environmental pollution and ensuring a clean and safe environment. Vehicle owners have been advised to maintain their vehicles according to the prescribed environmental and technical standards and to ensure immediate repair and fitness testing in case of excessive or unnecessary smoke emissions.
The efforts would be continue to strengthen the vehicle testing mechanism through VETS and make the process of monitoring vehicle emissions more effective. Additional measures would also be taken to control toxic emissions and reduce environmental pollution across the province.
