Islamabad: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs was informed on Wednesday that 140 complaints involving cyber financial fraud, harassment, identity theft and other online crimes were referred to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) during the financial year 2025-26.
The committee met at Parliament House under the chairmanship of MNA Rana Iradat Sharif Khan, said a press release here on Wednesday.
The Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, briefed the committee that the complaints were initially received by the Prime Minister’s Public Affairs and Grievances Wing and later referred to the NCCIA for necessary action.
Of the total complaints, 80 related to cyber financial fraud, 29 to cyber harassment, 17 to cyber-bullying, six to visa fraud, five to identity theft and three were of a general nature.
An NCCIA representative told the committee that the agency had adopted a multi-dimensional approach to tackling cybercrime. It included investigations, digital forensic analysis, coordination with relevant institutions and public awareness campaigns.
The committee was informed that the NCCIA had also established a dedicated web-based Complaints Management Unit to receive and process complaints.
Citizens could submit complaints through email, the online complaints portal, by visiting any of the 15 Cyber Crime Reporting Centres across the country or NCCIA headquarters, and through postal correspondence.
A representative of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) briefed the committee on measures taken to provide relief to people whose complaints had been received through the Prime Minister’s Public Affairs and Grievances Wing.
The committee was told that the complaints were processed according to the nature of each case and the eligibility status of the complainants.
Meanwhile, a National Highway Authority (NHA) representative briefed the committee on the operation of the toll plaza on the Okara-Pattoki section, road maintenance and the overall condition of the road infrastructure. The matter was discussed in view of the difficulties faced by commuters.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) informed the committee that it had received 18 complaints seeking financial assistance or scholarships for higher studies and another 19 complaints regarding the distribution of laptops under the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme.
The HEC said the relevant authorities had addressed the complaints while strictly following the eligibility criteria. It clarified that the government did not provide financial assistance for higher studies on an individual basis.
The committee also offered Fateha for its late member, Chaudhry Muhammad Bashir Virk, and paid tribute to his honesty, dedication and valuable services to Parliament and his constituency.
MNAs Muneeba Iqbal, Shazia Fareed, Malik Shah, Izbal Zehri, Naveed Aamir, Hameed Hussain and Naeema Kishwer Khan attended the meeting along with senior officials of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, NCCIA, BISP, HEC and NHA.
