Peshawar: A meeting of the Mines and Mineral Department was held here under the chairmanship of Arif Ahmadzai, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Mines and Mineral Development on Wednesday.

The meeting deliberated on various strategic measures to ensure the effective utilization of the province’s mineral resources and to boost revenue generation.

The Secretary of the Mines and Minerals Department, Dr. Muhammad Israr, along with other high-ranking officials, attended the meeting.

During the session, the provincial minister was given a detailed briefing on the department’s current performance and the potential avenues for increasing revenue.

The participants reviewed various aspects of the optimal and efficient use of the province’s mineral resources, keeping the public interest at the forefront.

A detailed discussion was also held regarding the overall role, utility, and active participation of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mineral Development and Management Company in enhancing provincial income through bette
r resource management.

Speaking on the occasion, Provincial Minister Arif Ahmadzai stated that minerals are a vital asset of the province and their transparent and efficient utilization is among the government’s top priorities.

He emphasized the need to make the company’s role and future roadmap more distinct and comprehensive. It was agreed to convene another meeting shortly to further clarify the role and detailed plan of the KP MDMC.

It was decided that a comprehensive presentation would be delivered in the next meeting, based on which recommendations for proper implementation and future action would be prepared.

These recommendations will subsequently be submitted to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the provincial government for final approval and next steps.

Muzaffwrgarh: Deputy Commissioner Usman Tahir Japah visited Fayyaz Park on Wednesday to review preparations for the Mango Festival, scheduled for July 11-12, in line with Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision.

Officers of departments’ concerned accompanied the deputy commissioner during the visit, a spokesman for the district administration said.

The deputy commissioner reviewed decoration, cleanliness, lighting, security, parking, entry and exit points, stages, stalls and facilities being provided for citizens at the venue.

He directed that all arrangements be completed on time and to a high standard to ensure a pleasant environment for visitors and guests attending the festival.

Usman Tahir Japah said the Mango Festival would play an important role in promoting the district’s agricultural identity, particularly its high-quality mangoes, besides local culture, handicrafts and tourism. He said the festival would feature exhibitions of the best mango varieties, cultural activities, family entertainment, food stalls and other engaging programmes.

The deputy commissioner directed the officers concerned to ensure all necessary measures for cleanliness, security, traffic management, medical facilities, uninterrupted power supply and citizen guidance, so that the festival is held successfully in an organised and memorable manner.

Lodhran: Police have arrested a drug peddler and recovered over one kilograms of ice during a successful raid carried out in the jurisdiction of city police station.

According to spokesperson for police, the police team raided at Kundi Minor and arrested the suspect identified as Tausif Abbasi.

Police recovered 1060 grams of ice hidden into the shopping bag and two mobile phones used into the sale and purchase of drugs from his possession.

A case was registered, while further investigation launched.

DPO Lodhran Capt (retd), Ali Bin Tariq, said that the drug peddlers were menace to society and raids would continue against them without discrimination. The DPO emphasized that alongside protecting the lives and property of citizens, Lodhran Police was committed to eradicate drugs and other social evils through effective enforcement, adding that a zero-tolerance policy was being strictly implemented against all lawbreakers.
