Rawalpindi: Police have solved the murder of an elderly woman, arresting her granddaughter and the granddaughter’s husband for allegedly killing her and attempting to conceal the crime by making the death appear as natural.

According to police, the suspects allegedly murdered the elderly woman several days ago and initially tried to make the death as natural.

However, visible marks of violence on the victim’s body prompted authorities to order a post-mortem examination and initiate legal proceedings.

Police said the post-mortem report indicated foul play, leading investigators to register a case and question the victim’s granddaughter and her husband.

During the investigation, the suspects allegedly confessed to the murder.

According to investigators, the couple strangled the victim with a rope over a small amount of money before stealing her gold jewellery, which they later sold.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Potohar, Sardar Babar Mumtaz Khan commended Civil Lines police team and said that regardless of how cunning offenders may be, they cannot escape the law and will be brought to justice.

Sargodha: An Additional and Sessions Court on Friday sentenced a drug pusher to 14 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.400,000 after convicting him in a narcotics smuggling case.

According to the prosecution,Factory Area police arrested the accused namely as Ghulam Muhammad and recovered 5.2 kilograms of charas from his possession during an operation.

Following the registration of a case,the investigating officer submitted the challan before the trial court.

After examining the evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, the court found the accused guilty and awarded him 14 years’ rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs.400,000.

Rawalpindi: The 46th batch of the Friends of Police Internship Programme concluded at the Rawalpindi Police Lines Headquarters, in line with the vision of Inspector General (IG) Punjab, Abdul Karim.

Students from various educational institutions participated in the two-week internship programme, during which senior police officers delivered lectures on police functioning, law enforcement, and different aspects of policing.

According to police spokesperson, participants received practical orientation on police station operations, Police Khidmat Markaz services, front desk procedures, police applications, traffic management, and legal and judicial processes.

As part of the programme, the students also visited Special Initiative Police Stations, the Police Lines Headquarters, the Command and Control Room, Traffic Headquarters, the Police Khidmat Markaz at Liaquat Bagh, and the Legal Branch to gain first-hand exposure to policing and public service delivery.

Police said the participants will be included in future public awareness campaigns, adding that young people can play an important role in improving police service delivery and strengthening community engagement.

The internship programme aims to encourage students to support effective policing, crime prevention, anti-narcotics efforts, and community policing initiatives.

At the closing ceremony, DSP Admin Shahida Yasmeen distributed certificates among the participants in recognition of their successful completion of the internship programme.

Faisalabad: Under the CM Internship Programme, an awareness session for veterinary officers and para-veterinary interns was organised at the Civil Veterinary Hospital, here on Friday.

The session was chaired by Director Livestock Dr. Haider Ali Khan. Additional Director Livestock Dr. Rubina Anjum and Deputy Director Livestock Dr. Sohail Ahmed Anjum were also present.

The interns were provided with useful guidance regarding professional responsibilities, field duties, departmental discipline and provision of quality services to the public.

During the orientation session, Dr. Nabila Murtaza provided training on semen and gas handling while Dr. Muhammad Asif Gondal provided detailed training on 9211 SPMS.

The objective of the training session was to equip the interns with technical knowledge, practical understanding and departmental matters so that they can effectively perform their responsibilities in the field.

This orientation session played an important role in familiarizing the interns with the procedures, technical matters and service delivery system of the Livestock Department, which will help them to further improve their professional performance in the future.

Bahawalpur: A woman was killed and two others sustained injuries after two motorcycles collided head-on on Hasilpur Road near Adda Sola Meel on Friday.

According to Rescue 1122 officials,the accident occurred when the two motorcycles collided,leaving one person dead on the spot and two others injured.

The deceased was identified as Bashiraan Bibi(45),r/o Chak No.1-B/C,Lal Sohanra.While the injured were identified as Waqas(28) and Hajra Bibi(55),r/o Lal Sohanra.

Rescue teams reached the scene and provided first aid to the injured before shifting them to the Rural Health Centre (RHC) Lal Sohanra for further treatment.

Faisalabad: Vice Chancellor (VC) University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Prof Dr. Zulfiqar Ali said that promotion of business skills among young generation can not only strengthen the national economy but will also help eliminate unemployment.

He was presiding over a meeting of Board of Management of the Home Sciences Lab, UAF.

UAF Treasurer Zeeshan Ishfaq Bukhary, President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) Farooq Yousuf Sheikh, MPA Uzma Raja, Dean Prof Dr. Imran Pasha, Dean Prof Dr. Waqas Wakil, Director Home Sciences Prof Dr. Benish Israr, Women Industrial Home Incharge Sadaf Iqbal and others were also present in the meeting.

The participants discussed new diploma program and fashion and home textile business plan at Women Industrial Home and Day Care Center UAF.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr. Zulfiqar Ali said that UAF is taking steps with the help of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry for knowledge-based economy so that research and innovation-based businesses can be implemented to solve industry and public problems.
