Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced a Performance Framework aimed at improving governance, enhancing the quality of public services, and strengthening accountability in government institutions.

In the first phase, performance agreements have been signed with the Health Department, the Anti-Polio Programme, and the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI).

Under the agreements, 500 new doctors will be recruited and deployed at Basic Health Units (BHUs) and Rural Health Centers (RHCs) across the province. Round-the-clock maternity services will be introduced at 250 health facilities, maternal and child health centers will be upgraded, and 62 district-level hospitals will be handed over to professional institutions to improve healthcare delivery.

To strengthen polio eradication efforts, an additional 150 doctors will be deployed in the southern districts. The framework also sets targets to significantly reduce the number of missed children during vaccination campaigns, eliminate the poliovirus from environmental samples, keep more than 97 percent of vaccination centers operational, and increase the full immunization coverage of children to 85 percent.

Addressing the ceremony, Provincial Health Minister Khaliq-ur-Rehman and Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah said that, on the directives of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, the health sector remained the provincial government’s top priority.

They said the Performance Framework would promote a results-based system, effective monitoring, greater accountability, and improved healthcare services for the people.

Gujrat: District Police Officer (DPO) Akhtar Farooq chaired a meeting to review security arrangements for prisoners and the facilities available at Bakhshi Khanas.

According to official sources, the meeting reviewed the safe transportation of prisoners between jail and courts, security arrangements during court appearances, and the provision of basic facilities at Bakhshi Khanas.

ASP Najeeb Ullah Nangyal briefed the participants on prisoner transportation, security measures and the overall condition of the holding facilities.

The DPO directed the concerned officers to ensure strict implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the transportation of prisoners.

He also instructed them to ensure the availability of clean drinking water, fans and other essential facilities at Bakhshi Khanas in accordance with legal requirements and human rights standards.

Kohat: Heavy rainfall caused the roof of a house to collapse in the Malgeen area, Tehsil, Lachi , trapping several residents beneath the rubble, the official sources said on Tuesday.

The Rescue teams rescued six injured people , they added.

The Rescue teams continued operations to free two people who were believed to be trapped under the debris, while emergency workers and local volunteers coordinated search and rescue efforts.

The injured were being provided medical assistance as rescue operations remained underway, they added.
