Hyderabad: Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad, Abdul Samad Nizamani, chaired an important meeting at Durbar Hall to determine flour prices across the district.

The meeting reviewed the availability of wheat and flour, prevailing market situation, ongoing action against hoarding, and measures to ensure the supply of flour to public at reasonable prices.

Participants presented data regarding flour production costs, available wheat stocks, and market demand and supply. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner said that, in accordance with the directives of Government of Sindh, providing relief to public remains top priority.

He emphasized that all concerned departments should adopt a coordinated strategy to keep flour prices at reasonable levels.

The meeting fixed ex-mill price of regular flour at Rs.117 per kilogram and retail price at Rs.120 per kilogram. Similarly, the ex-mill price of packed chakki flour was fixed at Rs.127 per kilogram, while the retail price was set at Rs.130 per kilogram. Deputy Commissioner directed concerned officers to continue indiscriminate action against hoarding, profiteering, and violations of officially notified prices.

The meeting was attended by District Food Controller Shaheed Benazirabad Dilshad Soomro, Assistant Director, Bureau of Supply and Prices Mazhar Shar, Inspector Rao Shakeel Ahmed, trader leader Zia-ur-Rehman, as well as representatives of the Wheat and Flour Dealers Association, flour mill owners, and chakki flour mill owners.

Hyderabad: Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam on Tuesday conducted the entry test for admissions to its postgraduate degree programs for the academic year 2026. A total of 574 candidates appeared in the test, which was held at designated examination centers established across the university’s faculties.

According to a university spokesperson, 603 applications were received for admission to MSc, MS (IT), ME, MPhil and PhD programs. Of these, 574 applicants were declared eligible to sit the entry examination including 80 candidates seeking admission to PhD programs.

Faculty-wise details showed that 203 candidates appeared for the Faculty of Crop Production, comprising 183 MSc and 20 PhD applicants. The Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences recorded 135 candidates including 117 MPhil and 18 PhD applicants.

Meanwhile, 131 candidates took the test for the Faculty of Agricultural Social Sciences and the Information Technology Centre including 26 PhD applicants. The Faculty of Crop Protection had 69 candidates, of whom 8 were PhD applicants, while 36 candidates appeared for the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology including 6 PhD applicants.

Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof Dr Altaf Ali Siyal accompanied by Adviser for Advanced Studies and Research and Dean Dr Abdul Mubeen Lodhi, visited the examination centers to review the arrangements. Expressing satisfaction over the conduct of the examination, he said the university had ensured a transparent, well-organized and merit-based admission process.

Deans of various faculties and senior faculty members were also present during the visit.

University officials said that the admission results, merit lists and further schedule would be announced shortly through the university’s official website, enabling successful candidates to complete the admission process within the prescribed time frame.

Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan on Tuesday expressed profound grief over the tragic collapse of a house caused by torrential rains in the Malagin area of Lachi tehsil, Kohat, where the death toll has risen to 10, including women.

In a statement, the minister said the incident was deeply heartbreaking and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

He appreciated the timely response of Rescue 1122 teams, which carried out an emergency operation and evacuated those trapped beneath the rubble.

Shafi Jan said the injured were being provided the best possible medical treatment at hospitals and assured that the provincial government stood shoulder to shoulder with the affected families in this difficult time.

He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and the speedy recovery of the injured, reaffirming that the provincial government would provide every possible assistance to the affected families.
