Sargodha to launch digital immunization card for children


Sargodha: Deputy Commissioner Sargodha, Hussain Ahmad Raza Chaudhry, chaired a meeting on Wednesday to review the implementation of the Immunisation Card Project, an initiative aimed at digitising children’s vaccination records across the district.



According to the spokesperson for the DC office here, the officials briefed participants on the project, which is being launched jointly by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Health Department. Under the initiative, children will be issued a Digital Immunisation Card, enabling complete vaccination records to be securely maintained and accessed online.



The meeting was informed that the digital system would strengthen monitoring of routine immunisation, improve vaccination coverage, and ensure greater transparency and accuracy of health records.



Officials said the project would begin with a pilot phase in two union councils, scheduled for completion within 60 days. Following the successful completion of the pilot, the initiative will be expanded to all 167 union councils of Sargodha district within the next 120 days.



The meeting was also informed that the fee for the Digital Immunisation Card has been fixed at Rs 50 for the standard service, while the urgent service will cost Rs500.



Addressing the meeting, the DC described the integration of children’s vaccination records into a digital system as a significant milestone for public health.



He directed the relevant departments to complete the pilot project within the stipulated timeframe to ensure its timely district-wide implementation.



Chief Executive Officer of the District Health Authority, Dr Kashif Nabeel Azam, Deputy Director NADRA Sargodha Region, Muhammad Nasir, and other concerned officials attended the meeting.

Joint mock exercise held in Paharpur to strengthen monsoon emergency preparedness


Dera ismail khan: Rescue 1122 Dera Ismail Khan, in collaboration with the district administration and other relevant departments, conducted a joint mock exercise and reviewed monsoon emergency preparedness during a meeting chaired by Assistant Commissioner Paharpur on Wednesday.



The meeting was attended by Station House Incharge (SHI) Rescue Station 44 Paharpur Muhammad Jamshed in line with the directives of Director General Rescue 1122 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Director Operations South Region and District Emergency Officer Muhammad Arif Khan.



Officials from Rescue 1122, Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) and Civil Defence participated in the exercise and reviewed preparedness at the Temporary Water Rescue Points (TWRPs) established along the Indus River.



The participants discussed the emergency response plan, inter-agency coordination and precautionary measures aimed at ensuring public safety during the ongoing monsoon season.



The meeting also reviewed the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for operational boats, boat registration, availability of life-saving equipment, enforcement of passenger capacity limits and other measures to enhance safety at river crossings and recreational points.



The representatives of all participating departments reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination and ensuring a prompt and effective response to any emergency situation during the monsoon season.

SAU unveils onion value-addition technologies to boost farmers’ income, food security


Hyderabad: Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam has unveiled innovative onion value-addition technologies aimed at reducing post-harvest losses, enhancing food security and creating sustainable income opportunities for farmers, rural women, youth and agro-based entrepreneurs.



According to the SAU spokesperson, the technologies were presented at the concluding seminar of a Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC)-funded research project focused on transforming onion production into high-value commercial products. The concluding seminar of the research project, “Study on the Value Addition of Onion in Sindh Province of Pakistan,” was organized by the Institute of Food Sciences and Technology under the Sindh Research Support Program (SRSP). The project was led by Associate Professor and Principal Investigator Dr. Tahseen Fatima Miano.



Addressing the seminar, SAU Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Engr. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal emphasized that agricultural universities must move beyond conventional research and focus on developing commercially viable technologies that convert agricultural produce and by-products into value-added products capable of generating employment and improving farmers’ livelihoods.



He said value addition represents the future of agriculture, enabling farmers to earn higher returns instead of selling raw produce at low prices. Such innovations, he noted, can significantly reduce post-harvest losses while promoting cottage industries and small-scale enterprises, particularly benefiting rural women, youth and emerging entrepreneurs.



Dr. Altaf Siyal further stressed that universities have a vital responsibility to provide technical guidance, consultancy services, and technology transfer to farmers, food processors and entrepreneurs to strengthen agro-based industries and contribute to Pakistan’s agricultural economy.



Project Principal Investigator Dr. Tahseen Fatima Miano said the research was designed to develop practical and affordable technologies that could be adopted by small-scale processors, farmer groups and entrepreneurs across Sindh. She added that onion value addition would improve farm profitability while contributing to sustainable agriculture, food security and rural economic development.



During the seminar, the research team showcased a variety of value-added onion products including onion powder, dehydrated onion rings, onion flakes, onion paste and onion pickle. Researchers also demonstrated improved processing and packaging technologies developed to preserve nutritional quality, extend shelf life and minimize storage and transportation losses.



The seminar was attended by representatives of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), universities, research institutions, government departments, food industries, agricultural extension services, progressive farmers, faculty members, researchers and students.
