Muzaffargarh: Muzaffargarh has secured the top position in Punjab in professional tax collection after achieving 118 per cent of its annual revenue target, according to the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department.

Excise Inspector Syed Mujtaba Zaidi said the department had expanded the scope of professional tax collection and recovered more than Rs750,000 in professional tax during the past month alone.

He said jewellers were brought into the professional tax net for the first time after an extensive awareness campaign. Meetings were held with office-bearers of the Jewellers Association, while shop-to-shop visits were conducted to educate traders about the legal requirement to pay professional tax, resulting in successful tax collection from the sector.

Zaidi said professional tax is payable by every individual engaged in a professional business in Punjab under the relevant provincial law. He added that although the Professional Tax Act was enacted in 1977, lack of public awareness had limited tax collection for many years.

He said that, following the directions of Director Excise, Dera Ghazi Khan Division, Fiza Shah, and District Excise Officer A.D. Bahram, the department broadened the tax base by including the jewellery market in the tax network for the first time.

Dera ismail khan: Superintendent of Police (SP) Security Division Murad Ali Khan visited the Police Training School in Dera Ismail Khan to review the institution’s security arrangements and assess preparedness in line with the directives of District Police Officer (DPO) Ziauddin Ahmed.

During the visit, Director Police Training School Atta Ullah Khan and Reserve Inspector (RI) Umar Khattab Baloch accompanied the SP Security and briefed him on the overall security framework, deployment of personnel, entry and exit points, existing protective measures, and the current security plan.

The SP conducted a detailed inspection of the security arrangements and directed the relevant officers to maintain a high level of vigilance to ensure the safety of the training institution.

He stressed the need to further strengthen monitoring at entry and exit points, keep security personnel on high alert, and ensure strict implementation of all standard operating procedures (SOPs).

He also instructed the officials to conduct regular reviews of security measures, maintain professional preparedness to effectively respond to any emergency situation, and utilize all available resources to safeguard the Police Training School and ensure a secure environment at all times.

According to the Dera Ismail Khan Police spokesperson, the visit was aimed at further enhancing security preparedness and ensuring effective protection of the police training facility.

DIG Nasir Aftab added that Mughal’s professional capabilities, courteous conduct and services to the department will always be remembered with great respect.

While extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the DIG prayed that Allah Almighty grant the departed soul the highest place in Jannat, complete forgiveness and give patience and strength to the grieving family.
