Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has issued tenders to upgrade Emergency and Trauma Centre at the Divisional Headquarters (KDA) Hospital in Kohat aiming better healthcare service delivery.

According to the project details, Emergency and Trauma Centre will be upgraded to an international Category-A standard.

The scheme includes installation of a modern Medical Gas System, advanced diagnostic facilities including CT scan, MRI, Ultrasound and Digital X-ray Units, major and minor operation theatres, inpatient wards, a modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Doctors’ Offices, Category-A Laboratory, standard Pharmacy and other state- of-the-art medical equipment and infrastructure.

Provincial Information Minister Shafi Jan, in a statement, said the initiative reflected provincial government commitment to improving public healthcare and ensuring access to quality medical services.

Sargodha: District Police Officer (DPO) Sargodha Tauqeer Muhammad Naeem on Tuesday held an open court at the DPO Complaint Cell to hear and address the grievances of citizens.

According to the police spokesperson here, during the open court, the DPO met with the citizens, listened to their complaints and issued on-the-spot directions to the concerned officers for the prompt resolution of their issues.

The DPO directed the relevant officers to ensure that citizens’ complaints are resolved on a priority basis and in accordance with the law. ‘Doors of my office are always open for all citizens. Anyone can meet me to seek redressal of their grievances without any recommendation or reference,’ he said.

He reiterated that the police department would continue to facilitate citizens and take all possible measures to resolve their genuine complaints promptly.

Shangla: Emergency Rescue Service 1122 has established water rescue camps near streams and river to deal with any situation during floods.

The rescue workers have been provided with modern boats, life jackets and necessary gear to cope with any situation and save lives. Rescue teams have also started awareness creating campaigns to orient people living in proximity of river and streams.

People have been given information about preventive measures to be taken during rains and flooding. People have also been urged to avoid travelling during rain, follow speed limit and remain cautious while travelling in areas more prone to land sliding.

Meanwhile, 1122 teams have retrieved three vehicle that were fallen into ditches in Yakhnange, Shangla top and Baile baba due to rains.

Sargodha: Police on Tuesday arrested a suspect for allegedly possessing an illegal weapon and recovered a 30-bore pistol from his possession.

According to police spokesperson here, the suspect, identified as Madad Khan, was taken into custody during a raid conducted by the police. A case has been registered against him under the relevant provisions of the law pertaining to illegal possession of arms.

Police officials stated that the accused would be brought before the court and dealt with according to the law.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police have arrested a woman for allegedly attempting to kill her own newborn baby and registered a case against her, police said on Tuesday.

According to the district police spokesperson, Naseem Nagar police received information through Madadgar 15 that a woman had injured her newborn with the intention of killing the child.

Upon receiving the report, In-charge Naseem Nagar Check Post, Inspector Benazir Jamali along with her team, rushed to the hospital where they questioned another young woman accompanying the suspect. She told police that she and Yusra, daughter of Ghulam Ali, were residing in a room at a girls’ hostel in the Naseem Nagar area.

She told police that Yusra had given birth to a baby at the hostel a day earlier. According to her, the woman first tried to strangle the newborn and then attacked the infant with a knife in an attempt to kill the child.

Police said a medical letter had been issued to the hospital to ensure treatment for both the injured newborn and the accused woman. Following the initial investigation, Naseem Nagar police arrested the accused and registered a case (Crime No. 364/2026) under section 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Police said further investigation was underway and legal proceedings were being carried out to ascertain all aspects of the incident.

Mirpur: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has revised the schedule for the Legislative Assembly elections, announcing that polling will now be held in three phases to strengthen security arrangements and ensure the peaceful conduct of the electoral process.

Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal on Tuesday announced the revised schedule at a press conference at the Election Commission headquarters in Mirpur. Senior Member Election Commission Khawaja Muhammad Ahsan, Member Election Commission Syed Nazir-ul-Hassan Gilani and Secretary Election Commission Raja Muhammad Shakeel Khan were also present.

Under the revised programme, polling in Mirpur Division will be held on July 27 as originally scheduled. The second phase will take place on August 2 in Muzaffarabad Division, while polling for the 12 seats reserved for Jammu and Kashmir refugees residing in Pakistan will also be conducted on the same day. The third and final phase of polling in Poonch Division will be held on August 10.

Justice Mughal said the decision to revise the schedule was taken after consultations with political parties. He said the phased polling plan would help strengthen security arrangements, as security forces engaged in other parts of the country could be deployed from one division to another during the election process.

He reiterated the Election Commission’s commitment to holding free, fair, transparent, impartial and peaceful elections. He said international observers and journalists would be given full access to cover the polls, while presiding officers would provide polling results to polling agents immediately after the completion of vote counting.

Responding to a question, the chief election commissioner said around 25,000 government employees had exercised their right to vote peacefully during polling held the previous day. He expressed confidence that voters would participate actively in the remaining phases and said the Election Commission had completed all necessary arrangements to ensure smooth and orderly polling.
