Islamabad: NUST Business School (NBS) has achieved a landmark milestone by securing accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), one of the world’s most prestigious and globally recognized accrediting bodies for business education.

With this distinction, NBS joins fewer than six percent of business schools worldwide that held AACSB accreditation.

Extending his felicitations to the NUST community and the nation, Rector NUST, Dr. Muhammad Zahid Latif, termed the accreditation a landmark achievement not only for NUST but also for Pakistan’s higher education landscape, said a press release on Monday.

He further said, “AACSB accreditation is a testament to NUST’s pursuit of quality, innovation and global engagement. This distinction reinforces our resolve to develop ethical, globally competitive and future-ready leaders who will create lasting value for business and society. ”

Commenting on the achievement, Dr Naukhez Sarwar, Principal and Dean NBS, said, “AACSB accreditation marks a defining moment in the School’s journey towards global eminence. It will further strengthen NBS’s global standing by expanding opportunities for international partnerships, student and faculty mobility, collaborative research and enhancing employer confidence in our graduates. ”

Islamabad: A total of 47 professional beggars were detained and shifted to police lockups during late-night operations carried out by Assistant Commissioners in different parts of the federal capital.

The crackdown resulted in the detention of 16 individuals in City areas, nine in Industrial Area, and 22 in Shalimar, according to district administration officials.

District administration teams remained active in the field late into the night as part of ongoing efforts to address professional begging in the federal capital. Assistant Commissioners led the operations in their respective areas and

took action against individuals identified as being involved in organized begging activities.

According to official details, the Assistant Commissioner City conducted operations that led to the detention of 16 professional beggars. In the Industrial Area jurisdiction, nine individuals were taken into custody, while the Assistant Commissioner Shalimar oversaw operations that resulted in the detention of 22 people.

The detained individuals were shifted to police lockups for further legal proceedings. Officials said the campaign was part of a broader effort to discourage organized begging and maintain order in public spaces across the city.

The district administration also appealed to residents to support the campaign by avoiding the encouragement of professional begging. Citizens were urged to report such activities and assist authorities in identifying individuals involved in the practice.

Officials stated that public cooperation remained important for the success of the drive. They said information provided by residents could help authorities take timely action and prevent the spread of organized begging networks in different sectors of the capital.

The administration reiterated its commitment to continuing such operations and called on citizens to play their role by reporting cases of professional begging. Authorities thanked residents for their cooperation and support in the ongoing campaign.

With 47 people detained in a single round of operations, the administration signaled that action against professional begging would continue across the city.

Islamabad: Chairman of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Selection Committee, Olympian Samiullah Khan has welcomed the South Korean national hockey team’s visit to Pakistan, describing it as a significant step towards the revival of international hockey in the country.

Speaking ahead of the Korean team’s arrival, Samiullah appreciated Pakistan Hockey Federation for successfully arranging the tour, noting that it marks the return of a foreign hockey team to Pakistan after a long hiatus.

“Pakistan Hockey Federation’s efforts for making this tour possible are commendable. I also extend my sincere appreciation to the South Korean Hockey Federation and its team for accepting the invitation and travelling to Pakistan, ” he said.

The legendary winger said the four-match Test series would provide Pakistan’s players with valuable international exposure and an opportunity to assess their temperament and performance against quality opposition.

“These matches will help us evaluate our players. Such contests are vital for the development of our team, ” he added.

Samiullah expressed confidence that Pakistan would produce an encouraging performance while stressing that the primary objective was to witness competitive and entertaining hockey.

“Winning is always important, but above all, people want to watch exciting hockey. I am hopeful that both Pakistan and South Korea will showcase high-quality hockey and provide memorable contests for the fans, ” he said.

He also asked hockey enthusiasts to support the teams and encourage the revival of international hockey in Pakistan.

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to eliminating Hepatitis C as a public health threat by 2030, in line with the country’s national commitments and the World Health Organization’s elimination targets.

“I am confident that Pakistan can achieve the goal of eliminating Hepatitis C as a public health threat by 2030, in line with our national commitments and the World Health Organization’s elimination targets, ” the president said in his message on World Hepatitis Day.

Urging every Pakistani to undergo Hepatitis C screening and seek timely treatment, the president expressed confidence that, through national unity, sustained commitment and collective action, Pakistan would overcome the disease and secure a healthier future for its people.

“World Hepatitis Day serves as a reminder that while Hepatitis remains one of the most significant public health challenge facing our nation, yet it is preventable and can be cured through early detection, early treatment, collective commitment and sustained action, ” he said adding “Pakistan bears one of the highest Hepatitis C burdens in the world, affecting millions of individuals and placing a considerable strain on our healthcare system, economy and society. The challenge before us is immense, but so is our determination to overcome it”.

To stem this tide, he said, “We must confront the primary drivers of this epidemic in our society including the use of unsterilized medical equipment, the unsafe reuse of syringes, unscreened blood transfusions and unsanitary practices in barbershops and beauty salons”.

The key to overcoming this crisis was a robust, two-pronged strategy of strict regulation and enforcement to eliminate unsafe healthcare and commercial practices, combined with mass public awareness campaigns to empower citizens with the knowledge to protect themselves and their families.

Recognizing the urgency of this national challenge, the president said the government of Pakistan launched the Prime Minister’s National Programme for the Elimination of Hepatitis C Infection, a landmark initiative aimed at providing free screening, diagnosis and treatment services to the people of Pakistan.

The programme, he said, had successfully commenced its field operations in the capital, where more than 10, 000 individuals had already been screened through community-based and mobile screening initiatives, and the campaign would soon expand to Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

He also commended the provincial governments, which would independently implementing Hepatitis C elimination programmers and making valuable contributions towards achieving our shared national goal.

Despite fiscal constraints and competing national priorities, the government has remained steadfast in allocating resources for this critical public health initiative. “We remain committed to utilizing every available resource efficiently, strengthening partnerships with provincial governments, development partners, the private sector and civil society and ensuring that this national mission continues without losing momentum, ” President Zardari remarked.

He said eliminating hepatitis required a collective approach. Healthcare professionals, researchers, development partners, educational institutions, the media, religious leaders, civil society organizations and citizens have an indispensable role in promoting awareness, encouraging screening, ensuring safe healthcare practices and preventing the transmission of infection.

The president extended deep appreciation to the doctors, nurses, laboratory professionals, programme managers, field teams and all healthcare workers whose dedication and professionalism continue to bring hope to thousands of families.

“I urge every Pakistani to come forward for Hepatitis C screening, encourage family members to do the same and seek timely treatment where required. Early diagnosis saves lives, prevents further transmission and contributes to a healthier and more productive nation, ” he added.
