ISLAMABAD:The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday sought assistance from the petitioner’s lawyer on technical points in a case seeking to issue Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) to MQM’s chief Altaf Hussain.
Additional Attorney General Munawar Dogal, during the hearing, requested the court to terminate the petition as it was not admissible. He said that the CNIC of Altaf Husaain expired in 1994 and he was issued a temporary passport.
He said that the Anti-Terrorism Court had also ordered to block the CNIC of the petitioner, adding that no such record had been found that may show Hussain had left the citizenship of Pakistan by himself.
Justice Mohsin Akhter Kayani, hearing the case, inquired whether another person could file such a petition instead of the absconder.
The AAG said that it was yet to be cleared that MQM had filed this petition. The court asked what were the provisions of law if an absconder who was staying abroad and wanted to surrender. The court asked whether the application was processed if any absconder approached Pakistan High Commission to the extent of civil rights.
MQM’s lawyer said their offices in Karachi were sealed which have some documents.
The court asked the petitioner to attach the relevant documents with his case if his party was registered.
The court instructed the counsel to assist the bench on the next hearing on technical points with regard to civil rights.
