ABBOTTABAD:The Abbottabad district administration has identified structural defects and safety concerns in several educational institutions during inspections aimed at protecting students and ensuring the maintenance of school buildings.
The inspections were conducted by Assistant Commissioner Galiyat Kamran Ali Shah on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Hameedullah Khan to assess the structural condition of public and private schools, identify repair needs and review safety arrangements and basic facilities.
During the inspection of Oregon Educational System, a private educational institution in Garhi Pana, Nawanshehr, water leakage and dampness had damaged the paintwork, while the overall condition of the building required repairs. The school administration was issued a notice and given 10 days to complete the necessary repair work. The administration warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period could lead to the sealing of the building.
The building of Learning Post School System and College in Dhamtour was also inspected and declared structurally safe. However, at Government Higher Secondary School Harno, the laboratory was found in a dilapidated condition, while the absence of a boundary wall at the rear of the school raised concerns about unauthorized entry. The relevant authorities were directed to arrange repairs to the laboratory and construct the missing boundary wall.
Similarly, an inspection of Government Girls Primary School Bagh revealed damage to the boundary wall and prominent cracks in the wall of a washroom used by female students.
Water accumulation on the roof of the Grade Five classroom, caused by inadequate drainage slope, had also resulted in dampness. The school entrance was found to be narrow, prompting directions to widen it to ensure safe and convenient access for students.
The district administration directed the concerned authorities and school administrations to address all identified deficiencies through necessary repairs and corrective measures.
It said the structural safety audits and technical inspections were intended to identify potential hazards at an early stage, improve safety arrangements and provide a secure learning environment for students and teaching staff. Monitoring and follow-up inspections will continue to ensure that the required measures are implemented.
