Mirpur: In a bold move aimed at administrative reforms and cost reduction, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has approved the abolition of seven secretary-level positions, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The decision comes as part of an austerity drive and in line with an agreement reached with the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JK JAAC). ‘The move will help reduce government expenditure and make the administrative structure more effective,’ sources said.
The posts affected include Secretary Transport, Secretary Population Welfare, Secretary Disaster Management and Civil Defense, Secretary Tourism and Archaeology, Secretary Religious Affairs and Endowments, Secretary (Ex-Officio) Environmental Protection Agency, and Secretary Information Technology, according to official sources.
Officials emphasized that the step reflects the government’s commitment to streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency, signaling a push toward leaner, more accountable governance in AJK.
