Muzaffarabad:Senior political leaders of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) held an extensive consultative meeting at Mujahid Manzil, the residence of Muslim Conference President and former AJK prime minister Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan, to discuss the Kashmir issue and the deteriorating law and order situation in the region, particularly in Poonch Division.

According to a presser issued here, the meeting was attended by former president and prime minister Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, PML-N AJK President Shah Ghulam Qadir, former prime minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan, PPP AJK President and opposition leader Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin, former prime minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan, and former Jamaat-e-Islami leaders Abdul Rasheed Turabi and Dr Khalid Mahmood.

Participants called for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with United Nations resolutions and expressed full solidarity with the Kashmir freedom movement. They also demanded the unconditional release of Kashmiri leaders imprisoned in India and occupied Kashmir.

The leaders expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in AJK, particularly in Poonch Division, and stressed the need for a peaceful and dignified political resolution of the ongoing crisis. They called for uninterrupted transportation, the supply of food and medicines, the immediate restoration of internet services, and the prompt inclusion of Poonch residents and voters in the electoral process.

Reaffirming the 19 July 1947 resolution for Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan, the participants pledged to maintain the state’s ties with Pakistan. They also opposed any changes to AJK’s constitutional status, internal autonomy, state identity, or powers granted to its government under the 1974 Constitution.

The leaders urged organisers of sit-ins and protests to respect the AJK Constitution, law, social values, and traditions. They agreed to continue the consultative process to address the region’s political and security challenges.
