Arsalan pays rich tribute to journalist Shaheed Jan Muhammad

Sukkur: On the 1st anniversary of Journalist Shaheed Jan Muhammad Mahar’s martyrdom, Sindh Government Spokesperson and Sukkur Mayor Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh on Tuesday paid rich tribute to Shaheed Jan Muhammad Mahar, acknowledging his contributions to the field of journalism.

He said that Shaheed Jan Muhammad Mahar’s professional legacy will endure, and his tragic loss has deprived Pakistan, particularly Sindh of a dedicated journalist.

Barrister Arslan emphasized the Sindh government’s support for Mahar’s family and condemned the murder, stating that it amounts to an attack on society. He praised Pakistan’s journalist community for courageously pursuing truth and justice in difficult circumstances.

The spokesperson further said that the Sukkur Municipal Corporation (SMC) has named a road after Shaheed Jan Muhammad Mahar at the site of his martyrdom.

Barrister Shaikh assured that the police are vigorously pursuing the case and will apprehend and prosecute Shaheed Jan Muhammad Mahar’s killers. He sta
ted that police have already arrested two persons nominated in the FIR and additionally, another nominated suspect, Kursi Jatoi was also arrested two days ago from Shikarpur’s riverine area.

He dispelled the impression that nominated suspects have any political backing and warned that if any attempts to influence the case come to light, they will be thoroughly investigated and punished.

He said that the Pakistan People’s Party and Sindh government has clear stance on this matter that perpetrators of this crime will be brought to justice.

Arslan reaffirmed the party’s commitment to free journalism, a core principle of their manifesto, and acknowledged the journalist community’s vital role in promoting true democracy in the country.
