Lahore:An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday dismissed the interim bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPAs Hafiz Farhat Abbas and Imtiaz Mehmood Sheikh in a case of torching police vehicles near Rahat Bakery during the May 9 riots.
Hafiz Farhat Abbas and Imtiaz Mehmood Sheikh immediately fled from the court after hearing the decision.
ATC Judge Khalid Arshad announced the decision on the bail applications of the accused and observed that the accused were not only named in the FIR but also in the supplementary statements.
Later, the court also dismissed the interim bail of Hafiz Farhat Abbas and Imtiaz Mehmood Sheikh in two other cases related to the May 9 riots due to their fleeing.
Meanwhile, the court confirmed the interim bail of eight others, including PTI leaders, in the case. The court ordered these accused to submit surety bonds of Rs 200,000 each to avail the relief.
The court observed that these accused were neither nominated in the FIR nor in the supplementary statements, therefore, th
eir interim bail was confirmed. The court confirmed the interim bail of MNA Rai Hassan Nawaz, MPA Rai Murtaza Iqbal, MNA Muhammad Ahmad Chatta, MNA Bilal Ijaz, Chaudhry Asif Ali, Shakeel Khan Niazi, Sardar Azeem Ullah, and another accused.
Moreover, the court extended the interim bail of former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry until August 10 and also extended the interim bail of three other accused until September 3 in the case.
The Sarwar Road police had registered a case against PTI leaders and workers for torching police vehicles near Rahat Bakery in the cantonment area.
