Two children, woman die as roof collapses in Swat

Peshawar: At least two children and a woman were killed when roof of their house collapsed in Khwazakhela tehsil of Swat district, police informed on Tuesday.

According to information, the incident occurred in Shalpin, a village in the Khwazakhela tehsil, where the roof of a mud house caved in.

As a result, a woman and two children were buried under the debris and lost their lives.

Police confirmed the incident, while local residents removed the rubble and recovered the bodies, which were later transported to the hospital.

UET awards 2 PhD degrees

Lahore: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore awarded PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering to two scholars.

According to a UET spokesman, Noor ul Ain completed her doctoral thesis on 'Assessment of Transient Over voltages for Dynamic Lightning Protection in Smart Grids," while Muhammad Salim Butt's research focused on 'Employing Ultraviolet Portion of the Solar Spectrum for Green Energy Generation in Terrestrial and Extraterrestrial Applications." Both candidates successfully completed their respective research projects, contributing significantly to their fields of study.

US-Pak Business Council congratulates Donald Trump

Lahore: Founder Chairman US-Pak Business Council and former president SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry Iftikhar Ali Malik on Tuesday congratulated Donald Trump for second time taking oath as a president of the United States. In a statement issued here, he hoped that the new administration would focus on further strengthening bilateral ties and economic cooperation between the United States and Pakistan. He emphasised the need for uninterrupted direct market access for Pakistani products in the United States at zero duty. He highlighted Pakistan's pivotal role in combating terrorism and the immense sacrifices the country has made in the global war on terror. He urged new leadership to recognize these sacrifices by facilitating favorable trade policies for Pakistan. 'Pakistan has been a front line state in the fight against terrorism, and its sacrifices must not go unnoticed,' he remarked. Commerce Minister, Cambodian Prime Minister discuss strengthening bilateral ties

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, during his visit to Cambodia, extended his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister, Samdech Hun Manet for the warm hospitality extended to the Pakistani delegation.

PSX witnesses bearish trend, loses 802 points

Islamabad: The 100-Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed bearish trend on Tuesday, losing 802.56 points, a negative change of 0.69 percent, closing at 115,042.25 points as compared to 115,844.82 points on the last trading day.

A total of 767,270,814 shares were traded during the day as compared to 675,046,602 shares the previous trading day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs31.825 billion against Rs. 37.533 billion on the last trading day.

As many as 450 companies transacted their shares in the stock market,135 of them recorded gains and 266 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 49 companies remained unchanged.

The three top trading companies were Cnergyico PK with 114,034,653 shares at Rs 7.29 per share, Bank Makramah with 69,476,357 shares at Rs.3.53 per share and WorldCall Telecom with 64,227,770 shares at Rs.1.78 per share.

Hoechst Pakistan Limited witnessed a maximum increase of Rs121.84 per share closing at Rs 3,108.52 whereas runner-up was Rafhan Maize Products Company Limited with Rs 94.94 rise in its share price to close at Rs.9,194.94.

Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs.299.49 per share price, closing at Rs 21,550.01, whereas the runner-up was Khyber Textile Mills Limited with Rs 43.88 rise in its per share price to Rs.526.08.
