Court impose Rs 40 mln fine to accused for selling illegal drugs:


Sargodha: Judge and Chairman Drug Court Sargodha Syed Khalid Javed Bukhari on Thursday awarded four years imprisonment along with a fine Rs 40 million to an accused for selling illegal medicines.



According to the prosecution, a case was registered against the accused Naveed Iqbal,resident of Langarwala pull of tehsil Sahiwal,for illegally business of illegal drugs on the report of deputy drugs controller Faheem Zia.



After completing arguments, the learned judge announced the verdict.However, the accused was arrested in the premises of the court.

Rain and snow expected in northern Pakistan amid dense fog in plains

Islamabad:: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Friday forecasted rain and snow over the mountains in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, North Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly areas.

Meanwhile, moderate to dense fog is expected to persist in most plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh during the morning and night hours.

According to the synoptic situation, a frontal weather system is affecting the upper parts of the country and is likely to persist until January 6.

In the past 24 hours, cold and partly cloudy weather dominated most parts of the country, with very cold conditions in hilly areas. Rain accompanied by snowfall over mountains was reported in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, North Balochistan, Murree, and its surroundings.

Dense fog continued to blanket most districts of Punjab and upper Sindh.

The highest recorded rainfall included 20 mm in Mir Khani, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, followed by 12 mm in Dir (Upper), and 5 mm in Dalbandin, Balochistan.

Other areas also received light rainfall. Snowfall measured 7 inches in Kalam, 3 inches in Astore, and 1 inch in Gopis and Chitral.

The lowest temperatures recorded today were -9 C in Skardu and Gupis, -8C in Leh, and -5 C in Astore, reflecting the biting cold in these regions.

Court grants post-arrest bails to 11 accused

Islamabad:: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday granted post-arrest bails to 11 accused in a case pertaining to protest and vandalizing public property in capital on October 5.

ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zuzqarnain heard the post-arrest bail petitions of 11 accused in FIR registered by I-9 Police Station.

The court accepted the bails against surety bonds worth Rs5,000 each and ordered to release the accused. The I-9 Police Station had arrested the accused in terrorism case.

Dense fog disrupts routine life in city

Bahawalpur: Bahawalpur and its surrounding areas experienced heavy fog on Thursday, severely reducing visibility and disrupting daily life. The mist, which began on Wednesday evening, blanketed the entire region, with visibility dropping to zero overnight.

The dense fog persisted through Thursday, hindering routine traffic as only a few vehicles ventured onto city roads. Most residents stayed indoors, with only those compelled by work or business stepping out.

The weather conditions caused a sharp drop in temperature, with the minimum recorded at 3°C in the city. Residents turned to warm clothing and stayed inside to cope with the biting cold.

The local Meteorological Office predicted that the foggy conditions were likely to continue for the next week, accompanied by chilly weather expected to last for the next two weeks.

This combination of dense fog and cold temperatures had significantly impacted daily life in the region, with residents preparing for an extended period of harsh weather.

2055 cases of violence against women reported at VAWC in 2024


Multan: At least 2055 cases of violence against women were reported at Violence Against Women Center (VAWC) over the past year,cementing its role as a crucial support system for women in distress.



Women Protection Officer Salwat Shafi told reporter that the center provide medical treatment, investigations, and counseling services under one roof. “The VAWC is a vital resource for women who might otherwise face barriers in approaching police stations or courts,” she stated.



The facility integrates multiple departments such as police, prosecution, medical, and counseling services, all staffed by women, ensuring a safe and supporting environment for victims.



“Our primary objective is to secure justice for women. Whenever possible, we resolve matters through reconciliation; otherwise,proceed with file cases,” Salwat Shafi said.



The VAWC continues to play a pivotal role in combating violence and promoting a safer society for women.

PM lauds Pakistan Navy for successful anti-narcotics operation in Northern Arabian Sea


Islamabad:: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday extended appreciation to Pakistan Navy for conducting successful anti-narcotics operation in Northern Arabian Sea.



During the operation, the Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Moawin confiscated a drug shipment worth around US$1 million.



This is a very significant milestone in the anti-narcotics campaign, the prime minister said in a press statement issued by the PM Office.



He said the Pakistan Navy played a central role in preventing drug smuggling on the country’s maritime defense and sea routes.



The nation is proud of the personnel of the Pakistan Navy, the prime minister added.
