24 criminals nabbed


Sargodha: Sargodha police during ongoing crackdown against rule breakers netted 24 criminals across the District.



The teams of different police station conducted raids at various localities and nabbed –Ali, Umair, Hamza, Bashir, Tahir, Tariq, Wasif, Majeed, Anjum, Shakeel, Khurram, Kamran, Umar, Aslam, Adnan, Syed Touqeer, Shafqat Chohan, Naveed Sultan, Kaleem, Saleem, Shafique,Niazi Shah, Ghulam Rasool, Taimoor and Rafaqat.



The teams also recovered 8-kg Hashish,3-kg heroin,huge quantity of ice,386 liters liquor,234 empty bottle,8 working distilleries,04 kalashanikovs,03 pistols,6 guns,200 bullets and valuables worth in millions of rupees from their possessions.

Pakistan formally begins 2-year term at UNSC, pledging to promote peoples’ self-determination right

United nations: Pakistan on Wednesday officially began its two-year term (2025-26) as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, the world body's power centre.

"As a non-permanent member of the UNSC, Pakistan will play its active role in promoting the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, including the right to self-determination of peoples under foreign occupation," Ambassador Munir Akram said in a post on X platform on Wednesday.

"We will work with other Council members to promote peace and security," the top Pakistani envoy added.

A formal flag raising ceremony for the new members of the Council --Pakistan, Denmark, Greece, Panama and Somalia -- will take place on January 2 (tomorrow) at the UN headquarters in New York.

The new members replaced Japan, Ecuador, Malta, Mozambique and Switzerland whose terms ended on December 31, 2024.

Pakistan will also preside over the 15-member Council in July when it assumes its presidency according to alphabetical rotation of the member states' official names. This will allow Islamabad to set the Security Council's agenda.

In addition to this, Pakistan will get a seat on the Islamic State (ISIS) and Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee, which is responsible for designating individuals and groups as terrorists and imposing sanctions.

This is Pakistan's eight term on the Council. The country's previous terms on the UNSC were in 2012-13, 2003-04, 1993-94, 1983-84, 1976-77, 1968-69, and 1952-53.

Over the decades, Pakistan has played an active role in promoting the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and made significant contributions to international peace and security, including its role as one of the leading troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping missions across the world.

Pakistan, which was elected to the UN Security Council by the General Assembly in June 2024, has replaced Japan on the Asian seat.

Ambassador Akram reaffirmed Pakistan's dedication to strengthening international peace and security during its tenure on the Council, pledging to actively participate in addressing both global and regional challenges.

KP body takes notice of missing MRI machine from ATH

Peshawar: Standing Committee of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Health chaired by Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani here Thursday took notice of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine that was reportedly missing from Ayub Teaching Hospital (ATH).

Chairman of the committee expressed displeasure over the irresponsibility of concerned officials and said that the missing of MRI machine is unacceptable.

Members of the committee also showed their annoyance over the absence of Secretary and Director General Health and said that it reflects the indifferent attitude of officials.

It was decided that action would be taken against officials involved in the incident.

The meeting also decided that absence of official without any reason would not be tolerated.

Gold rates increase by Rs.1,100 per tola

Islamabad:: The price of 24 karat per tola gold increased by Rs.1,100 and was traded at Rs.274,700 on Thursday against its sale at Rs. 273,600 on the last trading day, All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported. The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold increased by Rs.943 to Rs.235,511 from Rs. 234,568 whereas that of 10 grams of 22 karat went up to Rs.215,885 from Rs. 215,021. Per tola and ten gram silver were sold at existing prices of Rs 3,350 and Rs.2,872.08 respectively. The price of gold in the international market increased by $11 to $2,635 from $2,624, the Association reported.

LG representatives call off protest after successful dialogue with Govt

Peshawar: The negotiations between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and local government (LG) representatives concluded successfully on Thursday after which the latter called off their protest.

Chairman of the LG Action Council, Himayatullah Mayar, here formally announced an end to the protest. He stated that a 20-day timeframe has been set for resolving the issues, failing which the representatives may decide to protest again.

Provincial Minister for Local Government, Arshad Ayub, assured the protesters that a meeting with the Chief Minister would be held next week to address their concerns.

Mayor of Peshawar, Zubair Ali, expressed satisfaction over the outcome, stating that discussions covered rules of business, funds, and authority. He emphasized that the provincial government has been given a 20-day deadline to resolve the issues, after which further action would be considered.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, Minister Arshad Ayub mentioned that work on the Local Government Act has been ongoing for ten months but delays occurred due to the system's complexity.

He assured that funding and other demands were legitimate and would be fulfilled, with final approvals to be sought from the provincial cabinet. Additionally, the minister pledged to amend the act in consultation with local representatives and condemned the police's use of tear gas during the protests.

FCCI, KCCI to make joint efforts for formulation of economic policies

Faisalabad: The Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) and Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) would make joint efforts for formulation of economic policies and removing the irritants haunting the business community.

This was stated by Rehan Naseem Bharara, president Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) in a meeting with KCCI President Muhammad Jawed Bilwani. The two sides discussed overall economic situation in the country with a special focus on business-related issues.

The FCCI president said the government must consult the business community to formulate long-term, workable and result-oriented policies to stabilise the economy. He said that the FCCI and the KCCI, in collaboration with other chambers, would also help the government in the budget formulation for the next financial year. He said that the steps would be proposed so that the government could achieve its economic goals within the stipulated time frame. He also decided to bolster mutual relations among the business community and collaborate to formulate policies to provide maximum facilitation to the trade and industry.
