MUZAFFARGARH:In a landmark operation, the Alipur city police successfully arrested 30 individuals involved in promoting the heinous practice of bear baiting and rescued three bears from a life of unimaginable cruelty.
Led by Sub Inspector Abdul Maalik, the police party launched a courageous raid at the residence of Mehr Ahmed, an alleged sponsor of bear baiting. The heroic effort resulted in the rescue of three bears who had been subjected to unimaginable suffering.
Bear baiting is a brutal form of animal cruelty, where two dogs are forced to fight a defenseless bear, causing immense pain and suffering to these creatures. This horrifying practice has persisted as a social evil across South Punjab for years, with many individuals gambling on the outcomes of these fights.
The local community applauded the swift and decisive action taken by the city police. The rescue of these bears and the arrest of those responsible persons sends a powerful message that cruelty to animals will not be tolerated. It is a hopeful sign that society is taking a stand against this barbaric practice, said local people.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Muhammad Ahmed, Shaaban, Saeed, and some others stated, “We are grateful to the police for taking action against this cruelty. We hope the stringent action will deter others from participating in or supporting bear baiting, and this practice will soon become a thing of the past.”
This crackdown marks a significant step towards eradicating the dark shadow of bear baiting that has loomed over South Punjab for far too long.
The police officials informed that the arrested individuals would face legal consequences for their involvement in bear baiting.
The police officials further remarked the action would give a clear message that such actions would be met with severe penalties. This operation serves as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path towards a more compassionate and just society in South Punjab.
