ISLAMABAD:Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has paid glowing tribute to the 16 workers of the party on their 40th martyrdom anniversary who, during the Movement for Restoration of Democracy (MRD), were brutally killed by General Zia Regime on September 29, 1983, in village Punhal Chandio of Shaheed Benazirabad district.
According to the press release issued by Media Cell Bilawal House, he said the party workers, Shaheed Tharoo Chandio, Shaheed Rajab Ali Chandio, Shaheed Ali Sher Chandio, Shaheed Ghulam Mustafa Chandio, Shaheed Pir Bux Chandio, Shaheed Urs Chandio, Shaheed Siddique Chandio, Shaheed Gulab Chandio, Shaheed Hashim Khaskheli, Shaheed Janib Khaskheli, Shaheed Miro Khaskheli, Shaheed Ali Gul Khaskheli, Shaheed Muhammad Ramzan Khaskheli, Shaheed Mehboob Ali Solangi, Shaheed Allah Rakhio Solangi and Shaheed Hussain Bux Manganhar were brave democratic and political activists.
“Humanity will forever be ashamed of the Zia regime’s atrocities on PPP workers, whose only crime was to call for the restoration of democracy in the country,” he added.
Bilawal Bhutto said that after the judicial assassination of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the first elected Prime Minister of the country, the determination and courage shown by the people of the entire country in the movement led by ‘Madar-e-Jamhuriat’ Begum Nusrat Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto is an unforgettable chapter of our national history.
“Democracy in Pakistan is the result of the long struggle and great sacrifices of our party’s leadership and workers,” he added.
He said that the PPP will not let the sacrifices of its martyrs go in vain, and vowed: “We will continue to struggle for the establishment of a society based on the supremacy of the constitution and parliament and tolerance and equality to strengthen democracy in Pakistan.”
