Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Police on Friday arrested 26 criminals, including drug peddlers, liquor suppliers, illegal arms owners and violators of Tenancy Act across the district.

According to a police spokesman, seven accused were held on the recovery of over nine kilograms charas.

The Mandra Police recovered 2.476 kg charas from accused Shahvez and 1.238 kg charas from Arif, while the Taxila Police nabbed accused Shahid Iqbal and Hamza with 1.66 kg and 560 grams charas respectively.

Similarly, Dhamial, R A Bazaar and Wah Saddar Police held accused Adeel, Ali Hamza and Shahid with 1.26 kg, 1.2 kg and 800 grams of the contraband item respectively.

Likewise, five accused were arrested on the recovery of more than 30 litres.

The Sadiqabad, Taxila and Naseerabad Police recovered 15 litres, five litres and six liters of liquor from accused Hameedullah, Himayat and Ashfaq respectively, while the Waris Khan Police held accused Khadim and Faizan recovering four litres of liquor each from them.

Similarly, 10 accused were netted for having illegal weapons and ammunition.

The R A Bazaar Police recovered a 30 bore pistol each from accused Umair and Zeeshan, while the Airport,Taxila,Wah Saddar and Gujar Khan Police seized a 30 bore pistol each from accused Ibrahim, Waheed Akhtar, Waqas and Altaf respectively.

Likewise, the Saddar Bairuni Police held accused Akmal with a 12 bore rifle, while the Rawat Police nabbed accused Iftikhar and Arsalan with a 12 bore rifle and 30 bore pistol respectively. The Chauntra police recovered a Kalashnikov along with ammunition from accused Nadeem Rehman.

Meanwhile, during search operations four accused Fazal Subhan, Abdullah, Shams-ur-Rehman and Shukrullah were arrested for violation of the Tenancy Act.

Peshawar: Another tragic attack on police, performing polio duty, Friday left a cop injured in Akora Khattak tehsil of Nowshera district.

Police said, the incident took place in Hasan Dara area of Akora Khattak, where unidentified assailants opened fire on police constable Fida Hussain when he was returning from polio duty on his motorcycle.

As a result, the police official sustained injuries and was immediately shifted to Qazi Medical Complex for treatment.

Upon receiving information about the incident, police officials reached the crime scene, collected evidence, and launched a search operation to apprehend the culprits.

Rawalpindi: The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) had initiated cleaning and renovation work of parks in Rawalpindi in the wake of incoming spring season.

The beautification work undertaken on the instructions of PHA Director Ahmed Hassan Ranjha, was continuing on fast-track basis in all the parks of the garrison city, a PHA spokesman said on Friday.

He said the PHA was taking steps to provide all basic amenities in the city's small and large parks, besides planting flowers, repairing walking tracks and cleaning.

The spokesman said as per the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Authority was making all out efforts for the provision of the best recreational facilities to the citizens of Rawalpindi.

Rawalpindi: Security forces killed three khwarij in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan District on the night of February 6 and 7.

'On night 6-7 February, security Forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in the general area Datta Khel, North Waziristan District on the reported presence of khwarij.

During the conduct of operation, own troops effectively engaged the khwarij location as a result of which three khwarij were sent to hell, who were trying to escape wearing women attire (burqa)' said an ISPR news release.

Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed khwarij, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area.

A sanitization operation is being conducted to eliminate any other Khwarji found in the area, as the security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country.

Peshawar: A house in Sangrai, a village in Union Council Ranyal, District Shangla, caught fire due to a short circuit, police informed on Friday.

Police said, the fire completely destroyed the house, reducing it to ashes.

Household belongings were also burned in the incident, however, the family members remained unhurt.

Police confirmed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. Authorities are assessing the damage.

Hyderabad: The three-day Mehran University Model United Nations (MUET-MUN) conference has commenced at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro.

The event was inaugurated by Member Sindh Assembly and MUET alumnus Qasim Siraj Soomro along with the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Taha Hussain Ali.

According to a press release, speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Guest Qasim Siraj Soomro reflected on his student days, stating that back then, student politics existed, but discipline was lacking. He noted that students today receive much better training and exposure.

He also highlighted the historical resilience of Mohen jo Daro, mentioning that despite record-breaking rainfall in 2022, no waterlogging occurred, which astonished the world. He contrasted this with modern engineering failures, where bridges and housing colonies suffer from poor drainage and weak infrastructure. He emphasized that Pakistan's foundational infrastructure remains fragile, and the country continues to face a critical period of challenges.

Discussing health issues, Soomro revealed that Sindh spends 72 billion rupees on diseases resulting from poor habits. He warned that if the Indus River does not receive its required water, the situation will deteriorate, as an adequate water supply was essential for both nature and human populations.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor Dr. Taha Hussain Ali highlighted that MEUT-MUN, which began in 2015, has now completed a decade. He emphasized that the conference trains students in diplomacy, debate, negotiation and conflict resolution.

Dr. Aamir Mehmood Soomro stated that MEUT-MUN was not only a learning experience for students but also for faculty members. He acknowledged the efforts and resources students put into organizing such a large-scale event.

MUET-MUN President Abdul Ahad stated that the conference was not just a gathering but a training ground for shaping future leaders. Discussions focus on global and national challenges, and this year, for the first time in Pakistan, an AI-powered trainer model was introduced at the event.

The MEUT-MUN conference will feature debates on the Palestine-Israel conflict, the Kashmir issue, climate change and nuclear weapons. Additionally, discussions will be held on the 26th constitutional amendment, judicial independence, and other key issues.
