Rawalpindi:First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari on Thursday visited the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology and National Institute of Heart Diseases (AFIC-NIHD) and appreciated the Chinese assistance in modernizing the health sector.

The First Lady was briefed by the Chinese Cardiology Expert team, headed by Professor Dr Pan Xiang Bin, about the advanced medical procedures for congenital heart diseases and structural heart diseases under ultrasound guidance, which were being performed for the first time only in AFIC-NIHD with the Chinese support, a President's Office news release said.

Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, and Commandant AFIC-NIHD, Major General Naseer Ahmad Samore, were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chinese Ambassador said that China would extend such services to the province of Balochistan as well, besides offering training opportunities to Pakistani doctors to perform these procedures. He said that China would increase collaboration with Pakistan in the health sector.

The First Lady extended her sincere gratitude to the Chinese government for its cooperation in the health sector. She also commended the management of AFIC-NIHD for providing state-of-the-art treatment to heart patients.

The First Lady visited various wards, interacted with patients, and presented them with flowers.

The Commandant of AFIC-NIHD also presented the First Lady with a commemorative shield.

Muzaffargarh:Assistant commissioner Kot Addu Asghar Iqbal Leghari has dismissed an official of municipal committee from service after it emerged his appointment as tax officer bore fake signatures of appointing authority. The BS-9 tax officer, Muhammad Arsalan Siddiq, whose appointment letter carried signatures of former chairman Baldia Shahid Hussain and former TMO Mazhar Mahmood Hayat Tiwana was dismissed from service after inquiry showed the signatures of the two above mentioned office holders were fake. The AC said that legal action would be taken against the dismissed official.

Faisalabad:At least 36 couples will tie the knot under 'Dhee-Rani' programme, during a ceremony here on January 25.

The ceremony will be held in a local marquee on canal road under the aegis of Punjab Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal Department.

Provincial Minister for Basic and Secondary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir will be the chief guest. Advisor to PM Rana Sanaullah, political figures and officers of district administration will also participate.

The couples will be given Rs 100,000 as 'salami', gifts, clothes/ornaments by the CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Layyah:Layyah Police, under the leadership of District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Ali Waseem, achieved a significant breakthrough in December by recovering stolen property worth over Rs. 32 million and arresting 98 suspects, including members of seven criminal gangs.

During a press briefing held at the Police Lines, DPO Waseem revealed that the recovered items include one truck, 22 motorcycles, 40 cattle, solar motors, solar panels, inverters, water pumps, laptops, jewelry, mobile phones, and other valuables. The suspects, among them 25 dangerous criminals, were involved in a series of dacoities and robberies.

Police registered over 176 cases against the accused individuals, demonstrating their commitment to curbing crime in the district. The stolen items were handed over to their rightful owners in a ceremony following the briefing.

'We are committed to ensuring peace in the district and will leave no stone unturned to protect the lives and property of citizens,' DPO Waseem said.

The event was attended by police officers, media representatives, complainants, and a large number of citizens. Attendees lauded the police for their efficient operations and efforts to restore public trust.

Citizens praised DPO Waseem and Layyah Police for their proactive approach in maintaining law and order in the region.

This achievement marks another milestone in Layyah Police's efforts to combat crime and uphold the safety of the district.

Hyderabad:Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad Division Nadeem Ahmed Abaro on Thursday visited Rural Health Center Daur, Assistant Commissioner Office , Government Girls High School, Government Boys High School and Darya Khan Jalbani Memorial Library.

During visit, Commissioner Nadeem Ahmed Abaro inspected various departments of the center and viewed the medical facilities being provided to the patients.

Commissioner instructed Medical Superintendent that the patients coming for treatment at the Rural Health Center should be provided better health facilities on priority basis.

Later Commissioner visited the Darya Khan Jalbani Memorial Library and asked the students in the library about problems.He also asked some questions from them.

During the visit, Commissioner went round Government Girls High School and inspect the construction and repair work in the school. He instructed that standard materials should be used in the ongoing construction work, and no compromise would be tolerated on the quality of the work.

Later, Commissioner visited the Assistant Commissioner's office and inspected the record room. He said while giving instructions that the legitimate problems of the persons should be solved on priority basis so that relief could be provided to them.

Assistant Commissioner Daur Hasan Zafar, Mukhtiar Kar Muhammad Ali Jamali and other revenue officials were also present on the occasion.

Peshawar:The Peshawar High Court has extended a ban on gold mining in Kohat district due to the use of mercury in the process and directed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to inspect the environmental conditions of the area.

The court has also sought a report from the provincial government before the next hearing.

Advocate Nauman Mohibullah Kakakhel, in his petition, argued that mercury is used in the mining process in Kohat, which not only causes environmental problems but also leads to the disposal of waste into the Indus River, polluting the water.

He further stated that the waste generated from mercury usage negatively affects the Indus River and nearby agricultural lands. The use and improper disposal of this chemical are harmful to humans, animals, and plants and violate the Environmental Protection Act.

Deputy Director Legal of the Environmental Department, Mumtaz Ali, informed the court that more time is required for site inspection.

The court granted the provincial government a one-month extension and continued the injunction against the use of mercury in gold mining.
