Peshawar: Provincial Minister for Higher Education, Meena Khan Afridi has directed to expedite work on E-Transfer System and said it would ensure transparency in posting and transfers.

Chairing a performance review meeting of Higher Education Department, he said that transfers would be made after completion of E-Transfer System that was meant to ensure transparency and merit in the whole process.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary Higher Education, Kamran Afridi, Special Secretary and concerned officials.

Minister also directed to identify colleges that lack basic amenities and said that efforts would be made to address shortcomings in these institutions.

He also directed concerned committee to speed up work on curriculum reviewing.

Expressing satisfaction over performance of higher education department he said that irregularity and corruption would not be tolerated.

He urged teachers to further improve performance and work with dedication realizing their responsibilities.

Rawalpindi: During the year 2024, a total of 1,768 fire incidents occurred in which 98 people were victimized.

According to the year ender statistics released by the District Emergency Service, Rescue 1122 here on Wednesday, out of the total 98 victims, 11 were died, 36 were seriously injured and 51 were slightly injured.

Rescue firefighters took timely actions in a professional manner and controlled these fire incidents. Rescue service saved a total of about Rs. 1,718.0 million worth of potential damage in these fire incidents.

The major causes of fire incidents included short circuit, carelessness in using cigarettes, gas leakage and gas cylinder explosions.

Rescue Rawalpindi also reported 100 forest fire incidents in the year 2024, the majority of which were controlled by the rescue's timely response.

Lodhran: An accused,booked in several cases, was reportedly killed by firing of own accomplice during encounter near 'basti Line Wahin' late last night.

Police said here on Wednesday that three accused opened fire on the police van.The team retaliated and during the cross fire,accused Shehbaz shot dead by the firing of his own accomplice.

The team recovered rifle and number of bullets from the crime spot.

Police said that the deceased accused was booked in nine cases relating to multiple crimes as well as he had escaped the district hospital on December 11, 2024 after snatching rifle from constable on duty.

Further investigation was underway.

Faisalabad: Chairman Department of Entomology and Principal Officer Public Relations and Publications University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Prof Dr Muhammad Jalal Arif has retired after attaining the age of superannuation.

He served the university for 34 years at various posts from lecturer to professor in addition to performing administrative duties.

Dr Jalal Arif joined the university in January 1990 as lecturer and promoted to the post of professor.

He served as Chairman of Entomology Department for three terms and worked as PO PRP for the period of 14 years.

Meanwhile, Dr Muhammad Tayyab from Department of Entomology UAF has been assigned the duties of Principal Officer Public Relations and Publications (PRP) and he has also taken over the charge of his office, a spokesman of the university said here on Wednesday.

Peshawar: A colourful event, Hunerfest concluded here the other day at Destination Heritage Hotel formerly known as Greens Hotel at Peshawar.

The ceremony was inaugurated by Secretary Tourism,culture and Archeology Muhammad Bakhtiar Khan and Director Archeology Dr Abdul Samad Khan

During this joint venture by Hunerzone Archeology, tourism, and artisan, stalls were organized by the youth affairs department.

Artisans from far-flung areas like D.I Khan, Swat, and Peshawar exhibited their local products.

Cultural performances also took place and New Year's night ended with a performance by Heer and Jam boys.

This was a wonderful effort by the management to revive the cultural heritage of Peshawar give the youth an opportunity and give them economic empowerment.
