Islamabad:Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Dolphin, Iqbal Hussain, briefed the Dolphin Squad officers at Police Lines Headquarters on Thursday, emphasizing the need for more effective patrolling to curb crime in the capital.

An official told reporter that during the briefing, SP Dolphin emphasized the need to make patrols more effective in combating crimes in Islamabad, particularly by positioning themselves strategically in areas with higher crime rates.

Encouragement was extended for arrests of criminals, and a strict zero-tolerance policy against corruption within the police force was underscored.

Furthermore, the SP Dolphin reiterated the importance of all police officers in the prevention and control of crimes, emphasizing their role in ensuring the safety of lives and property of the citizens.

The formation of the Dolphin Squad aims to instill confidence in citizens regarding their safety, not tarnish the department’s reputation. It’s essential for officers to exhibit good conduct and adhere to clear policies aimed at crime control, he added.

Officers were reminded of their duty to respond promptly to reports of crimes and to conduct searches for suspicious individuals or vehicles without license plates.

He further said that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the top priority of Islamabad Police. He expressed the hope that all officers would play a vital role in ensuring the safety of citizens and enhancing the department’s reputation.

Islamabad:Cold and dry weather is expected to persist across most plain areas of the country on Friday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

While upper regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, may witness partly cloudy conditions with light rain and snowfall at isolated places.

A westerly wave is currently affecting the upper parts of the country, bringing slight precipitation in some areas.

Cold and dry conditions prevailed in most parts during the past 24 hours, with very cold temperatures recorded in hilly areas. Light rain and snowfall occurred in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The rainfall recorded during this period included 11mm in Dir (Upper), 3mm in Kalam and Mirkhani, 2mm in Kakul, and 1mm in Saidu Sharif and Mardan. In Gilgit-Baltistan, Bagrote received 3 mm of 1e.

The snowfall was recorded at 04 inches in Kalam and 01 inch in Malam Jabba.

The lowest minimum temperatures recorded today were -09 C in Leh, -06 C in Skardu, -05 C in Kalam and Gupis,

and -03C in Parachinar, Malam Jabba, Astore, Bagrote, and Kalat.

The PMD has advised residents in hilly areas to prepare for cold conditions and possible disruptions due to snowfall.

Islamabad:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday felicitated Member of National Assembly Shaista Pervaiz Malik on her appointment as the country ambassador for Pakistan by Women Political Leaders (WPL), a global network of women politicians.

The prime minister, in a statement, said that the appointment of Shaista Malik as country representative was the manifestation of her remarkable services and struggle for women’s rights.

He said that as a legislator, Shaista Malik played a key role in ensuring the rights of Pakistani women and expressed the hope that she would bring fame to Pakistan through the international platform of Women Political Leaders.

Islamabad:Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb chaired meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Rightsizing of the Federal Government here Thursday to review restructuring of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the National Heritage and Culture Division.

The meeting focused on the recommendations of the sub-committee headed by Salman Ahmad, Ambassador at Large, regarding the restructuring, according to press release issued by finance ministry.

The sub-committee, after extensive consultations and a thorough examination of the scope of work and public policy impact of the attached departments, presented its findings to the committee.

The proposals included recommendations aimed at enhancing the productivity and efficiency of various departments, ensuring more impactful activities, and improving public service delivery.

The sub-committee’s report also outlined several recommendations, including potential mergers, the transfer of functions, third-party audits, and the establishment of clear timeliness for achieving self-sustainability.

These measures are intended to lead to the creation of leaner, more efficient organizational structures under both the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the National Heritage and Culture Division, in line with the government’s commitment to rightsizing.

During the meeting, the proposals were discussed in detail, taking into account the feedback from both the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the National Heritage and Culture Division.

The committee members and senior officers from the relevant ministries participated actively in the discussions.

The final recommendations of the Cabinet Committee on Rightsizing will be firmed up shortly and submitted to the Federal Cabinet for approval.

Islamabad:The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed satisfaction with the public response to ticket sales for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 beginning next month (February).

Tickets for Pakistan vs New Zealand (February 19, Karachi), Australia vs England (February 22, Lahore), Pakistan vs Bangladesh (February 27, Rawalpindi) matches are completely sold out,said a statement issued here.

Initially, the PCB had made 30% of tickets available for online sale. Meanwhile, the tickets will be available for physical purchase starting February 3 at TCS Express Centers, with over 100 outlets across the country.

PCB officials have expressed satisfaction with the public response to ticket sales, noting that tickets sold out within hours. This strong demand reflects the excitement of Pakistani cricket fans.

The PCB has reassured fans that it will ensure as many spectators as possible can attend the matches, demonstrating its commitment to supporting Pakistani cricket enthusiasts.

Islamabad:Muhammad Jawad Tariq officially took charge as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Islamabad on Thursday, replacing Ali Raza, who has been posted as DIG Security and Headquarters.

A public relations officer told reporter that upon assuming his responsibilities, DIG Tariq emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of citizens. “It must be clear to everyone that we all have a shared responsibility to enforce the law and protect the lives and property of citizens.

We must perform our duties with utmost dedication, and no one, including myself, is above the law,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Shoaib Khan has been appointed as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Islamabad.
