Lahore: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday extended the interim bail of PTI leaders Musarrat Jamshed Cheema and her husband, Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, until March 22 in multiple cases related to the May 9 riots, including the Jinnah House and Askari Tower attacks.

ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill presided over the hearing on the bail petitions of the couple, who also appeared before the court upon the expiry of their interim bail.

During the proceedings, police informed the court that investigations into the cases had been completed and that the couple's arrest was required.

However, the defence counsel requested additional time to present arguments, which the court accepted.

Subsequently, the court extended the couple's interim bail until March 22 and adjourned further proceedings.

Musarrat Jamshed Cheema and Jamshed Iqbal Cheema had filed pre-arrest bail petitions in several cases, including attacks on Jinnah House and Askari Tower, the torching of Shadman police station, and others.

Lahore: Punjab University (PU) signed an agreement with Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), for registration of working human capital and bridge the gap between potential employer and employee through an IT system.

In this regard, a ceremony to sign memorandum of understanding was held at PU VC's office here on Tuesday.

On this occasion, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, Director IT Operations PITB Atif Husssain, PU Director Career Counseling and Placement Centre Dr Fouzia Hadi Ali, Director External Linkages Dr Yaamina Salman, and others were present.

According to MoU, Punjab University will provide the incoming flow of the students and will encourage them to get registered into Punjab Job Center Portal. PITB will support for integration of database with available data of current students and alumni. PU will inform PITB in case of any activity planned i.e job fairs, talent hunt programs etc. As per MoU, PU will publicize Punjab Job Center within university premises. PITB will also provide necessary information to students regarding registration and its benefits; ensure the secrecy of data provided.

PITB shall oversee and ensure timely execution of project activities and maintaining project reports and record keeping of project activities. Both the institutions are united by common interests and objectives, and they shall establish channels of communication and co-operation that will promote and advance their respective operations. The institutions will keep each other informed of potential opportunities and shall share all information that may be relevant to secure additional opportunities for one another.

PU VC Dr Muhammad Ali said that MoU will bring opportunities for students. He said that in Pakistan a number of IT graduates of Punjab University are working in key-positions, which is a matter of pride.

Lahore: Partly cloudy weather with scattered rain was recorded in the city on Tuesday while MET office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

MET officials said a westerly wave was present over several parts of the country and will remain there for a couple of days. The rain was recorded in some parts of the city on early hours of Tuesday. The lowest temperature in Lahore was 15°C while maximum was 21°C.

Meanwhile, the average AQI of the city was 61, which was moderate while the PM2.5 concentration was 3 times the World Health Organization annual PM2.5 guideline value.

Lahore: The Punjab government has appointed senior legal expert Muhammad Amjad Pervaiz as the new Advocate General of Punjab.

A notification regarding his appointment was issued by the Punjab Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department on Tuesday.

The post remained vacant for nearly three weeks after Justice Khalid Ishaq resigned following his appointment as a Lahore High Court judge.

During this period, Additional Advocate General Baligh-Uz-Zaman Chaudhry served as the acting advocate general.

Amjad Pervaiz is a seasoned lawyer known for representing high-profile figures in various legal cases.

With expertise in criminal law, particularly in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) cases, Amjad Pervaiz is regarded as a specialist in legal matters related to accountability and financial regulations.

Lahore: Star South African all-rounder Aiden Markram is a doubtful starter due to injury concerns for the all-important second semi-final of the ICC Champions at the Gaddafi stadium on Wednesday (tomorrow).

South African ODI captain Temba Bavuma, in the pre-match press conference at the Gaddafi stadium on Tuesday evening, told journalists that Markram will undergo a fitness test during the practice session at the Gaddafi stadium, adding that travelling reserve George Linde will replace him in the squad if Markram did not pass the fitness test.

On the New Zealand squad, Bavuma said that New Zealand are a formidable team with a disciplined bowling attack.

On Williamson's bac-to-back centuries against the Proteas, Bavuma said 'Williamson has been a thorn and we have definite plans against him,' adding that it was important to contain Kane Williamson.

The South African captain, however, expressed great admiration for the New Zealand team, adding that the Kiwis had a good bowling attack and they were more familiar with the conditions in Lahore as they won the tri-nation series recently. He said New Zealand only lost against India in the Champions Trophy group stage.

'We are going play our best cricket in the semi-final against New Zealand tomorrow', Bavuma said.

Earlier, New Zealand and South African teams had separate practice session at the Gaddafi stadium on Tuesday afternoon and evening respectively.

Lahore: Four newly appointed additional judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) will be sworn in on Wednesday, March 5, during a formal oath-taking ceremony.

LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum will administer the oath to the newly appointed judges in a ceremony scheduled to be held in the Judges' Lounge (Common Room) of the court.

The judges set to take the oath include District and Sessions Judges Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan, Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh, Tariq Mehmood Bajwa, and Abhar Gul Khan. They have been appointed as additional judges of the Lahore High Court.
