Lahore: IGP Prisons Mian Farooq Nazir has directed all jail superintendents in Punjab to ensure strict security and proper arrangements for Sehri and Iftar in Ramazan.

According to his letter, jail security will remain on high alert during these times. The deputy superintendents will oversee the distribution of food, with medical staff present inside the jails. Superintendents and medical officers will conduct surprise visits, and Taraweeh arrangements will be completed in all barracks.

For the first three days of Ramazan, jail superintendents will personally supervise arrangements. A detailed record of donated ration items will be maintained, with thorough checks before distribution. Additionally, regional DIGs have been instructed to conduct surprise inspections.

Lahore: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Gujranwala Zone has arrested seven human traffickers, including wanted criminals, in a major crackdown on human smugglers as well as visa fraud in the raids conducted in Wazirabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujrat, and Gujranwala.

A spokesperson for the FIA said, the arrested suspects had been identified as Muhammad Irfan, Shaukat Ali, Umar Sultan, Awn Irtaza, Riyasat Ali, Ali Hassan and Muhammad Asghar. They were involved in fraudulently promising foreign employment and extorting millions from citizens. The accused collected large sums of money by offering fake job opportunities in Oman, Albania, Cyprus, Italy and Dubai.

One of the suspects, Asghar allegedly took Rs 2.6 million from a citizen, promising a job in Italy. He attempted to send the victim via a dangerous sea route, but he refused and returned to Pakistan.

The spokesperson said the suspects failed to deliver on their promises and went into hiding after collecting money from desperate job seekers.

FIA Director Gujranwala Zone Abdul Qadir Qamar said that a full-scale crackdown on human traffickers is ongoing. He emphasised that actions against human trafficking networks have intensified.

Abdul Qadir said that the arrested individuals will face strict legal consequences added FIA teams remain in constant contact with victims ensuring justice is served.

Lahore: The Punjab University has awarded PhD degree to Abdul Rauf Athar, son of Athar Baig, in the subject of High Energy Physics after approval of his thesis entitled 'An Exploration of Alternate Theories of Gravity and Their Cosmological Consequences'.

Lahore: Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has expressed the government's desire for Iranian paediatric heart surgeons to visit Pakistan and share their expertise with local surgeons.

He made these remarks during a meeting with Dr. Asghar Masoodi, Director General of Khana Farhang Iran Lahore, at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Friday. The meeting aimed to explore collaboration between Iranian medical universities and UHS.

Highlighting Iran's advancements in medical sciences, the minister said that Iran is a great country in every respect. He recalled his official visit to Shiraz, Iran, in 2009 as a representative of the Punjab government and expressed admiration for the Iranian Revolution.

Referring to a letter sent by the Iranian Consul General to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, he stated that the Punjab government is keen on Iranian surgeons performing pediatric heart surgeries in the province. These specialists will treat children with congenital heart defects, enhancing Pakistan's medical capabilities in this field.

Dr. Asghar Masoodi acknowledged Khawaja Salman Rafique and his family's contributions to Pakistan, highlighting that the minister's father made great sacrifices for the country. He also recalled the historical ties between Pakistan and Iran, emphasizing that Iran was the first country to recognize Pakistan, while Pakistan was the first to congratulate Iran on its Islamic Revolution.

He noted Iran's significant progress in medical sciences, particularly in robotics, and mentioned that over 100 Iranian students enrolled in Lahore's educational institutions last year. He also facilitated a direct conversation between Khawaja Salman Rafique and the Iranian Deputy Health Minister, who assured full cooperation in healthcare collaboration.

Speaking on the occasion, Pro Vice Chancellor UHS, Professor Nadia Naseem, said that Iranian students can enroll in Punjab's postgraduate programs. She highlighted potential collaborations in digital education, teleconsultation, medical journalism, and short-term exchange programs, including internships and summer schools.

During the meeting, Iranian souvenirs were presented to the Punjab Health Minister and UHS Vice Chancellor.

The session was attended by Vice Chancellor UHS, Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore, senior faculty members, and Additional Secretary Technical, Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, Dr. Muhammad Waseem.
