Multan The Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) Multan will host a special event on October 7 to mark World Cotton Day, bringing together agricultural scientists, researchers, growers and other stakeholders to discuss ways to strengthen Pakistan’s cotton sector.
The event, being organized by the Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) under the guidance of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, will commence with a cotton walk at 9 00 am, followed by the main ceremony.
The ceremony will focus on cotton research, modern production technologies, improved varieties, higher productivity and major challenges confronting the cotton sector.
Cotton remains a key crop for Pakistan, providing livelihoods to millions of farming families while serving as a major raw material for the country’s textile industry and an important contributor to export earnings.
Speakers at the event will deliberate on measures to improve cotton production and quality, promote climate-resilient technologies and bridge the gap between agricultural research and farmers’ practical needs.
The cotton sector is currently facing challenges including shortage of quality seed, water scarcity, climate change, pest attacks, rising input costs and low per-acre productivity. Effective transfer of modern research and production techniques to growers is therefore considered essential for improving the sector.
PCCC Chief Executive Officer Dr Khadim Hussain is leading efforts to strengthen the committee’s research and technical system and facilitate the transfer of modern technologies to farmers. CCRI Multan is contributing through research, development of improved cotton varieties, modern production technologies and technical support to growers.
Representatives of agricultural research institutions, the Agriculture Department, cotton growers, textile and agricultural media, industry and other relevant stakeholders will participate in the event.
According to CCRI Multan, World Cotton Day provides an opportunity to renew collective efforts to connect research, technology and policy with the practical requirements of cotton growers and promote sustainable development of the sector.
