Peshawar: Chairman District Development Advisory Committee (DDAC) and Member Provincial Assembly Sher Ali Afridi along with Secretary Local Government Muhammad Dawood Khan, Commissioner Peshawar Riaz Mehsud, Officials of the Forestry Department and Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) Chief formally inaugurated City tree plantation drive here on Friday.
With this, the WSSP has started a monsoon plantation campaign in connection with the Billion Tree campaign. Secretary Local Government Muhammad Dawood Khan and Peshawar Commissioner, Chief WSSP and Chief Conservator Forest Kifayat Baloch, Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Sarmad Salim Akram also planted saplings.
Three thousand fruit and non-fruit plants and trees will be planted during the campaign. Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Sarmad Salim Akram, Chief Conservator Forest Kifayat Baloch, district administration and WSSP officials participated in the inauguration ceremony besides planted saplings.
Commissioner Peshawar said that citizens are actively pa
rticipating in the plantation drive along with the provision of services.
To deal with the effects of climate change, everyone has to plant trees. Protection of the environment is the responsibility of the institutions as well as the citizens, Haji Sher Ali Afridi said.
Muhammad Dawood Khan said that every section of society has to fulfill its responsibility and planting trees is to secure the future. He said that protection of the environment is the responsibility of the institutions as well as the citizens.
