Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister(CM),Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday directed the administration to ensure immediate relief and rescue measures for families affected by river erosion in Layyah, besides ordering a comprehensive assessment of losses and measures to protect the affected areas in the future.
On her directives,Special Assistant to the Chief Minister (SACM),Shoaib Mirza reached Mouza Samra Nasheeb in Layyah, inspected the erosion-hit areas and reviewed damage to houses,agricultural land and other property.
He also met affected families and inquired about their problems.
The CM has ordered the provision of necessary machinery for rescue and relief operations,while officials of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab and Irrigation Department have been directed to reach the affected area. Arrangements have been made for safe relocation of affected people and their belongings to secure places,along with food,shelter and dry ration.
A special committee has also been constituted on the Chief Minister’s instructions to assess the losses suffered by farmers and affected families and submit a report.
Maryam Nawaz has directed the administration to remove all obstacles to relief and rescue operations and propose permanent measures to protect Mouza Samra Nasheeb from river erosion.
SACM Shoaib Mirza said that the government was providing all available resources and required machinery for the protection and relief of the affected people.
He added that the situation in the erosion-hit areas was being continuously monitored.
