Lahore: The Secretary of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education has taken strict notice of the theft of government medicines from Lahore General Hospital (LGH) and ordered the suspension of three employees, including Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) Dr. Muhammad Tanveer, Pharmacy Technician Saadullah Zafar and Ward Attendant Rashid Ali.
According to an official notification, the suspended employees have been directed to report to the Health Department.
LGH spokesperson said on Sunday that Medical Superintendent Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain immediately relieved the three employees of their duties following the orders. He said a case regarding the theft of medicines had also been registered at Kot Lakhpat Police Station.
The MS said that if the police investigation established the involvement of any other person or employee, strict legal action would also be taken against them. He added that no leniency would be shown to anyone involved in corruption or malpractice and the hospital’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption would continue to be enforced strictly.
Principal Amiruddin Medical College Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal said government medicines were a trust belonging to patients and that health professionals were responsible for ensuring their transparent and honest distribution among deserving patients.
He said uncompromising action would continue against those who deprived patients of their rights, adding that no one would be considered above the law.
