Hyderabad: A meeting chaired by Commissioner Hyderabad Division Fayaz Hussain Abbasi was held to review water quality and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels in the Indus River.
Officials from the Water Commission, Irrigation Department, Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), Water and Sewerage Company, Information department and other relevant departments briefed the meeting about water testing and the current situation.
The meeting was informed that water samples collected from different locations along the Indus River were tested by laboratories of the Water and Sewerage Company, SEPA, Mehran University and the Water Commission. The tests recorded TDS levels ranging from approximately 595 to 600, which were reported to be within the prescribed standard.
Commissioner Hyderabad directed the concerned departments to continue regular sampling of Indus River water and close monitoring of TDS levels, with testing through relevant laboratories to ensure availability of reliable and timely data on water quality.
He further directed the departments to strengthen coordination and cooperation, while SEPA was asked to ensure that treatment plants at industrial units along the Indus River remain operational and that necessary action is taken in case of violations of environmental regulations.
The meeting was attended by Chairman Water Commission Dr. Muhammad Ahsan Siddiqui, Chief Engineer Kotri Barrage Riyaz Hussain Shah, Focal Person Water Commission Supreme Court Syed Irfan Ali, CEO Water and Sewerage Company Tufail Abro, Deputy Director SEPA Ali Nawaz Bhanbhro and other concerned officials.
