Commissioner reviews progress on Wheat Campaign 2026-27, anti-smog steps

Sargodha:Commissioner Sargodha Division Hafiz Shaukat Ali on Wednesday chaired a video-link meeting to review the performance of divisional committees regarding the Wheat Campaign 2026-27 and the anti-smog and environmental pollution prevention campaign, along with their targets and future course of action.



According to a spokesperson, during the session, the Director Agriculture (Extension) briefed participants on progress regarding wheat sowing targets, the provision of facilities to growers, the availability of quality seeds and agricultural inputs, irrigation, and other related matters.



The Commissioner directed all relevant departments to work in close coordination to increase wheat production and provide every possible facility to farmers. He stressed effective field monitoring and a close liaison between district administrations and the Agriculture Department to achieve the fixed targets of the wheat campaign. Furthermore, he instructed all Deputy Commissioners to immediately complete the recovery of amounts disbursed under the Kisan Card and ensure strict monitoring in this regard.



Reviewing the anti-smog campaign, the Deputy Director EPA briefed the meeting on measures to curb environmental pollution, prevent the causes of smog, and outline the responsibilities of various departments.



The Commissioner ordered the effective implementation of a zero-tolerance policy against smog, directing indiscriminate legal action against crop residue burning, smoke-emitting vehicles, industrial emissions, and other sources of pollution. He also directed that meetings of district-level smog committees be convened immediately and that devised control measures be strictly enforced.



Commissioner Hafiz Shaukat Ali urged EPA officials to further improve their performance, enhance field monitoring, and expedite action against elements causing environmental pollution. He maintained that protecting a clean and healthy environment is a collective responsibility, calling on all concerned departments to accelerate practical measures through mutual coordination, effective monitoring, and robust public awareness campaigns highlighting the harmful effects of smog and precautionary measures.



The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioners of Khushab, Mianwali, and Bhakkar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) Sargodha, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Director Agriculture (Extension), SE Irrigation, Deputy Director Food, Deputy and Assistant Directors of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Secretaries of Regional Transport Authorities, alongside other concerned officers.
