Peshawar: Funeral prayers for police constable Shumal Khan Shalmani, who was martyred while repulsing a terrorist attack on a joint checkpost in Jamrud, Khyber district, were offered at Khyber Police Lines on Monday with full state honours.
According to police, terrorists attacked the Takhta Baig Zarmat Khan Shaheed Joint Checkpost in Jamrud during the night. Shumal Khan Shalmani bravely confronted the attackers and was martyred in the exchange of fire.
CCPO Peshawar Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed, DPO Khyber Waqar Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Shahid Ali, Bara Rifles Commandant Amir Tauseef and senior police officers attended the funeral.
A police contingent presented a guard of honour to the martyred constable, while senior officers laid floral wreaths on his coffin.
Speaking on the occasion, CCPO Peshawar said Shumal Khan Shalmani was a brave and dutiful police official fought the terrorists with exceptional courage. He said the attack was successfully repulsed due to the resistance offered by the security personnel.
Dr Saeed Ahmed said the sacrifices of police personnel in the fight against terrorism would always be remembered, adding that the force remained proud of its martyrs and their sacrifices for peace and security.
